We use a down duvet and duvet cover, no flat sheet. We love this setup, and it works just fine for us in summer and winter. And I love how it looks! All fluffy and comfy looking!

RedHeadKel:  Yes, I adore Switzerland (well, Geneva specifically) and you really need to wrap up warm. Come over to the warm side and get a duvet 🙂

RedHeadKel:  I love the mountains! Such a beautiful place.

Definitely buy and use duvet covers all the time. We have a few sets and then each week the bed is stripped and the covers washed and replaced. I wouldn’t be very comfortable directly under a duvet. Egyptian cotton is expensive but very comfortable to me.

gbee:  I’m with you gbee, I have to have the flat sheet between me and the duvet, this saves me from washing it. I wash my sheets weekly, the bed underpad and duvet cover I only wash once a month. I find it is to much hassel to take off the duvet cover weekly to wash.

RedHeadKel:  Oh yeah, we tried getting a new duvet once, and I know the crinkly sound you’re talking about. I hated it too, and we went back to our old one. The one we have is all fabric, and doesn’t have that plasticy feel, completely silent. I’d say, if you want to go duvet, hunt around until you find one that feels/sounds better. Not all duvets are made equal, apparently. And unless you have a reason you’re going with alternative (vegan, or animals getting into the feathers, etc), the real down can’t be beat.

RedHeadKel:  an electric blanket has been my saviour. I sleep under a top sheet, fleece blanket, cellular blanket, and duvet with a duvet cover. I used to use an assortment of duvet cover styles (floral and polka dots) but since I have got a little kitten who sleeps on my bed, I have had to change to plain white duvet covers. If I don’t, she pounces on the pattern! She thinks the embroidered flowers are her prey 😀 so funny.

justagirlfirst:  Yes!  It’s nice to have a clean bed, and it drives me nuts that my SO will sleep directly against his comforter since he messes his sheets up so much and then doesn’t wash the comforter regularly.
