So my Darling Husband has his first ever desk job and his training is officially done tomorrow where they will be showing him to his new desk and cubicle. I thought for Christmas I could get him a few things for his desk like a calendar. I was wondering what people usually keep on their desks because I’ve never had a desk job myself lol. My grandfather has a desk job and he has a ton of stuff on his desk but since that’s the only desk I’ve seen in a work setting I thought I’d ask a few more people.
Also do you work with any men? What do they have on their desks? Random questions but I don’t want to over do it I just want some thoughtful but practical gifts for him this year.

On my desk, I have:
-One of those wooden drawing mannequins
-a wooden owl
-a butterfly pushpin kit from Paper Source
-Two picture frames, one wooden and one red with hearts
-A red pencil holder
-A cardboard letter A
-a sansiviera plant in a terra cotta pot
-an Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader calendar (make fun all you want; it’s excellent!)

Nothing but lots and lots of legislation to read! 🙁 I’ve always been a totally boring office person. I really should bring in a picture or two….

I have a storm trooper and a Yoda bobble head, pictures of my fiancé and my cat. I also have a bunch of model Mustangs I built and painted pink.
Frame a nice picture of you two for him! Actually most of the guys I work with have horribly messy desks so I don’t notice any personal items behind the junk. Maybe some magnetic letters to spell out obscene things (we totally do that).

Paper clips, a stapler, scotch tape, a pen holder… Things he can use everyday.

I have an inbox, a small desk fan, a mug with various utensils, a letter opener, stapler, tape dispenser, a mug I actually drink coffee out of, hand sanitizer, and tissues.
The guys in my office have a lot of the same fare. One guy has a beta fish in a bowl, affectionally called Ted.

Besides a few stacks of work-related papers, I have a fake plant, a voodoo kit to make the other lawyer stupid (I’m an attorney and thought it was hilarious), a picture of my SO and I, a picture of my dog, and my favorite coffee mug.
ETA: My only male co-worker has a wedding picture on his desk. And the judge I work for has pictures of his kids and grandkids around his chambers.

Most of the men I work with only have work related things on their desk plus maybe a picture of their wife or family and a coffee mug.
I have a clear tray as my Inbox, a box of tissues, a rice paper lamp, a DYMO labelwriter, my phone, pencil cup, post its, stapler, tape, day planner, water cup (which is awesome, by the way. It’s a holographic Avengers cup) and my coffee mug. I will be putting up a pretty picture frame with one of our wedding photos when we get our propics.

@Pinkmoon: HAHAHAH I have the magnetic word poetry on my fridge… theres some not so nice things written out on there from time to time. LOL My Darling Husband is a total neat freak from being in the Marines but he keeps tons of toys around on his dresser and night stand. I think he’s going to have one busy desk after he’s there a while. A picture is a great idea, he asked if I had any he could take so I’ll just get a nice frame for him!
@Rubbs: good good! I don’t know why those things didn’t cross my mind.
@MrsWBS: aww that’s not boring it’s just being very into your work =)
@EffieTrinket: I like your desk. I would totally have a day to day calendar too, probably People Of Walmart! hahahahahah I think I’m going to get him the day to day Office calendar, he loves that show!

I have people at my desk a lot so I try to keep it clutter free.
I have an inbox, stapler, tape dispenser, letter opener, container for pens, paper clips, etc. I used to have one of those large desk calendars but got rid of it.
I also have a picture of my husband and I. 🙂

@anemonie: tissues and hand sanitizer!!! Wrote those down!
@Boston Bee: LOL I love that, I have a little voodoo guy on my fridge I actually don’t know where it came from we just use it to hold pins and buttons we find.
@6598731ssfse3: I think I’ll get him a nice cup too, they haave to be covered though so I’m a little stumped.

@alaska_99705: Is your photo framed or just tacked up? I was wondering what I should do for the picture if he decided to keep everything clutter free.
*I do definitely plan to ask him before I buy things what he needs, is allowed to have and how much or little he’d like on his desk*

@HappilyEverAfter54: My picture isn’t framed, I just have it taped to the side of my computer monitor. I definitely don’t have enough room for a frame, or I would do that!

@alaska_99705: thank you! I know his desk is pretty big and they really only use computers for his type of work so he has a ton of space. I think he could handle a frame I just wanted to see the point of view from someone who has no clutter. =D

Most likely his work place will provide all the office supplies he need. Perhaps a fun or cool mug to hold his pens/pencils, a cool mousepad, red swingline stapler (like office space!), calendar, candy dish.
You could do pictures but personally I prefer to keep pics off my desk so people don’t always ask me about them.
