My fiancé and I both love “experience” gifts. So for his 30th birthday we went to see Newsies in Broadway and then went to Dave and Buster’s in NYC. We spent the night at a hotel in NYC (which I got a really good deal on because I never thought I could afford a night in NYC lol). The next day we went to the Museum of natural history. ๐Ÿ™‚

We’re not super big into giving presents, but I love some of these ideas!

I don’t remember all the presents I’ve given him, so I’m going to go with the one that’s most recent. He’s been talking about how he wanted a Xbox one for a couple of months now. He said he was going to buy it, but I wanted to surprise him with it.

Last Monday I went and bought it and then ran home like a mad woman and threw the Christmas decorations up. I wanted to have it wrapped under the tree by the time he got home, even though I knew he was going to get it that night haha. I also bought myself a Ninja blender and wrapped the empty box to put next to his.

When he got home I told him he could open his present after dinner. He didn’t believe I got him anything and thought the boxes were just decoration. After dinner I told him he could open it and he said “you didn’t get me a present.” So I told him to go look then he said “B, did you get me an xbox?” and I just shrugged my shoulders because I suck at these kinds of things. He ran over and picked up my empty box and threw it down and said there’s nothing in these. Then opened his and proceeded to tackle me. I tried to get a video but only got a pic.

He was so damn excited and I cried haha. I can’t imagine what I’m going to be like when I have a kid if they are anything like he was. This is like the first big present I got him, and now I want to do it everyday just to see his reaction! It was so worth it!

For this 30th birthday last year, I gave him 1 gift a day for 30 days leading up to his birthday. He was pretty excited to be getting something every day.

This year, I am giving him a trip to Arizona to skydive.  He’s been wanting to try it, and his brother just moved there, so it’ll be a good little reunion trip.

He also dreams of opening his own brewery, so I got him a beer making course to kind of kick things off.  Hopefully he likes it!

My fiance is addicted to Red Wings hockey, and I got him some really good tickets for Christmas!  I’m going to give them to him in a scavenger hunt, building up to them slowly with smaller gifts ๐Ÿ™‚

ksn1219:  I know exactly what you mean about loving the reaction!

I got my fiancé an Xbox One for his birthday. I was so excited about it, that I gave it to him 2 weeks early. As soon as he tore the paper and saw the green box, he said, “No…you didn’t…” Then he started to cry, which made me cry, because he doesn’t cry often. He was just so touched that I would get him something that expensive. He’s been talking about getting one since before it came out, but he wasn’t planning on getting it until after the wedding. It felt so good to show him that I appreciate how hard he’s been working so that we can have the wedding I want.

craigslistgirl:  My SO is also a craft beer snob! So I personalized a beer stein on the Wal-Mart website to say “John Doe’s Beer” (his name of course) and put it in a basket with a bunch of different craft beers and a jar of peanuts. Loved it.

I recently got him tickets to see one of the lord of the rings movies with a full orchestra in New York city for our three year anniversary. He is a lord of the rings mega fan and loves live music (he is a bit of a music snob) His look said it all! ๐Ÿ™‚

Its one of my cheaper gifts I’ve ever given was a little wooden box 4in by 2 in i stained a nailed a metal heart to and wood burned our initals on … I wrote this long letter explaining the box and filled it with candy kisses and at the bottom was a metal fancy key as the cliche key to my heart but the point was now that he had the key to the box/heart they both had room to fill… And every holiday/major event/ sometimes just because i add a very small metal charm/trinket of an object related to our relationship with a love letter explaininf what it symbolizes… Some the more generic ones that are easy to understand without knowing us are a dream catcher (dreams come true), lighthouse (he is my light even when times seem dark),etc..

I think the best gift I ever gave Darling Husband was a framed copy of his college diploma.

Darling Husband has a great job and got two degrees during his undergrad.  But he didn’t walk, didn’t invite anyone to his grad, and never updated his address so his diploma was never sent.  And he always seemed sad about it, enough to describe it this way.

So 5 years after he graduated, I went through his school which is out of state, sent in the forms, and ordered a copy of his diploma and had it framed nicely.  He keeps it in his office at work!

This isn’t a happy gift,  but….last year, three days before Christmas his dad had a heart attck.  In London. Naturally there were abolutely NO flights available.  But the people who handle my winnings were able to get him on a plane  2 1/2 hours later.  That was a very special gift.  But not a happy one.
