A colleague told me that the foam mattresses weren’t as good for sex because they don’t bounce. Can anyone substantiate this rumor?

Wilson2Bee:  it has something to do with how the foam layer is attached.  The eurotop looks like a continuation of the mattress and the pillowtop looks like a pillow was sewn on top of the mattress – that’s the best way I can think to describe it.  I don’t think it really makes a difference.

Andthepupmakes3:  yes. I literally could’ve written this! My “temperpedic” is the best money I’ve probably ever spent. I wake up with no back pain and I sleep like a rock!

molokoa:  haha its kinda totally true! FIs matress (we don’t live together yet) is a crappy old pillow top and the bounce is quite nice (but if I sleep on it it’s terrible neck and back pain for the rest of the day.) Mine is a firm memory foam so it’s not as easy, but you just kinda have to arch your back a little more lolol

I work at a local mom n pop mattress store that has been in business for over 40 years. I have two suggestions, a waterbed (yes they are still around and made even better than back in the 60’s!) or a latex bed!

I would suggest a latex mattress because it’s all natural hypoallergenic and it lasts SOOO much longer than memory foam. A lot cooler than memory foam as well. High up there in price but it will last a good 25 years. Very supportive but not too firm.

I would suggest a waterbed because there are so many different options to choose from with it. You can choose the firmness of the mattress and you can control the tempature of the bed (who doesn’t love a heated mattress during the winter!) In a softside waterbed you can also have a dual set up so you and your partner can have different firmness and different heat tempatures! The heated bed is great for arthritis!

If you are looking for a name brand mattress and you like a plush feeling mattress, look at the Simmons Recharge line. They are just coming out with new models now, so be sure to check them out or even get a good deal on last years models. Wonderful company and the product is really well made. I’ve never had an issue with one of thier beds. They are foam incased with dual pocketed coils and a bunch of different foams.

Everyone is different so please try out the mattress before you get it. And when I say try it i mean really try it for atleast 15-20 minutes in the exact position you sleep in at night. If you are a stomach sleeper lay down on it in the store on your stomach. No one will laugh at you, the sales person will be happy because you will be able to pick out the one that is just right for you.

Oh and if you want to shop around for the best price, some companies do change the name of the same mattress. There may be one coil difference and they can get away with it so the mattress is “exclusive” to just that store. Just ask the sales person about the construction of the mattress and then go to another store and give them the name of the mattress and the construction and they will be able to show you pretty much the exact same thing. Be careful with larger chain stores, (I wont name any names) from what i’ve seen they double the price of what I charge for the same mattress then put it on a 50% off sale to make people think they are getting a deal…

PeachyMama:  Too funny!  My BFF has one and she swears by it.  Then again, she sleeps in the bed with her dogs so she has both sides set to her number. 😉

FutureMrsHodgy:  Haha, thanks! I’ve hesitated purchasing one because she told me that years ago. I feared having to choose between comfortable bed or sex life. The bounce is nice- especially when I’m feeling lazy

PeachyMama:  Those are the WORST!!!  I have stayed at a couple hotels with them and I was so excited the first time. I was like YES a hotel bed that’s the perfect amount of soft for my preference! And then I started playing around and I was like are you serious? This is an effing air mattress!!!  Not awesome feeling at all!

Memory foam mattresses for young couples are a terrible idea, they can make it painfully hard to try to support yourself/move. If you love the feel of memory foam go for a hybrid mattress (memory foam over an innerspring base), you get the pressure relief but the bed has more bounce and resistance.

The brands I would personally recommend/buy myself after selling mattresses (and seeing returns roll back) for 5 years are Stearns & Foster, Simmons and Serta. Also make sure you get a mattress protector to prevent mattress stains as for most companies stains will void your warranty.

Wilson2Bee:  We have a TempurPedic.  Best sleep I’ve ever had in my life.  Worth the price and then some.
