personally, I like non-traditional weddings … most of the weddings I’ve attended (which haven’t been many though) are so similar and traditional, I can’t tell one from the other.

food isn’t a huge thing for me (at weddings), unless it absolutely sucked then it’ll stand out to me.

Good food.

And traditional.  I hate feeling like I’m at a show.  And a bit of class.  This doesn’t mean expensive, but it may mean using fake metal plastic silverware instead of the cheapest white stuff you can find.  Went to one of those and felt like I was at a work luncheon.

But good food is a must.

I have yet to attend wat I thought to be a great wedding.

Having said that, very few of our friends are married.  So I haven’t been to a ton of them.

Food! Seriously, I love when weddings have great food. The other thing that makes a wedding great to me is when the guest list isn’t humongous and the guests aren’t sitting around waiting all night for things to happen. I like a good, fun flow so you aren’t bored looking at your watch. I also like when the bar (if there is one, but there usually is at weddings I go to) has the ability to make a Shirley Temple. At the last wedding I was at the food sucked and the bar couldn’t make me a flipping Shirley Temple. Hopefully the wedding we’re going to tomorrow can 🙂 lol

To me, the ceremony is the most important part of the wedding event.  I’ve attended weddings that did not have spectacular venues, memorable food, stunning centerpieces, or gorgeous bridesmaids’ dresses.  However, I loved them nonetheless because of the very memorable, heartfelt, very moving ceremonies involved in uniting these couples in marriage.

My cousins wedding was the best that I have ever been to besides my own.

The food wasn’t great, but I have a LARGE family and there was an open bar and good music so we were dancing all night long. And they left the cookies out for the guests to munch on all night which was a great idea, especially if you are drinking. And there weren’t any slow songs either so it was just a great time. It was a large wedding too because of how big our famly is and the brides was big as well.

I think if the bride and groom are out there dancing, then I think that sets the mood.

I was worried that my wedding wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun (theirs was just in September) but thankfully I took a cue from them and ours was just as fun if not more crazy!

Good food, an open bar, and short speeches.  Lots of laughter is also really important!  And I may be in the minority here, but I love a good slideshow.

The best weddings for me don’t have a ceremony that drags on and on. My favorite was a very romantic sweet 30 min one.

Have the most different kinds of food and booze. And have music in the background.

Also anything “different” from the same old thing is always awesome.

I’ve been to a couple weddings I couldn’t wait to be over that were 1-2 hours for the ceremony, hardly no food, super yuck wine, and everything was just white, with no music. Most people just sat around looking awkward and started to leave a couple hours into it.

I think my favorite wedding was my best friends who did everything at her own house including the 20min ceremony, and everyone just talked and laughed and had a great time. Everything went wrong but no one cared. All the groomsmen had different tuxes on, the groom wore a tophat for no reason. It was great.

One that stood out for me was a small wedding that had just the most amazing food! Ok, I admit it…I LOVE FOOD.  This particular wedding had curry lamb and green tea wedding cake.  Not the most usual selections but I think that is what I loved about it.

Another wedding that I loved actually took place at a Chinese restaurant in Flushing.  Again the food was great but more than that was that everyone had such a great time.  They had the cheesiest DJ in the entire world and did all the line dance/party hats/glow sticks that some people say not to do.  But you know what, it totally worked!  Everyone laughed and dance and had a good time.

My friend’s wedding was very casual and the bar was open before the ceremony, so we had cocktails with us at our seats when the ceremony began.  The ceremony was short and sweet so the fun could continue without much interruption.  There was plenty of food, the beverages were flowing, and everyone was dancing for hours.  In my opinion the best weddings are the ones where everyone is having so much fun they don’t want the evening to end.

My cousins was amazing. It was a beautiful day and after the ceremony we sat outside in the hotel grounds by the banks of a river.

There was champagne and canapés aplenty. The meal was gorgeous with lovely touches like handmade chocolates to finish.

They also had a full Scottish pipe band perform songs as a surprise which was amazing.

I think food and drink are 2of the most important components.

@Brielle:  I would love to agree with this, but unfortunately I find many ceremonies awkward and uncomfortable.

For me, the things that make a wedding awesome are (some sort) of open bar. and a great dance party! But I think the most memorable weddings I’ve been to were those who were for couples who I know well, and love, and who had genuinely excited for their marriage 🙂

Good food, short speeches and an open bar.
