Why do people like to include readings at wedding ceremonies? There are so many well-meaning readings out there, but I’m not sure if there is 1 (or 2) that can really encompass and represent our love for each other. I’m inclined to not have any readings, but if Fiance wants to do it, we can discuss. Plus, I think they can get lengthy and potentially less interesting to others. Do you all have any particularly recommended readings?

We had The Union by Robert Fulghum and a reading inspired by Carl Sagan. We both loved both of them, and wanted some science in our ceremony. If there aren’t any you like, then don’t have any.

craigslistgirl: i don’t remember the readings we chose, but we had a Catholic ceremony and readings are done in those ceremonies. Having a reading was another way for us to incorporate the people we are closest with. I chose short readinfs but readings that showed what marriage meant to us

We each had our moms do a reading. One was because we really loved the readings and also we wanted our moms to have an important role in the wedding. My father walked me down the aisle and my husbands father was his best man so we wanted something for our moms to do also.
However, our entire ceremony was only about 15 minutes so it really didn’t drag anything out.
