We had our tasting today and tried about 15 of the 40 flavors our baker makes. During the tasting, she hands us a piece and says “I’m not going to tell you what this is, but taste it and guess.” We tasted it, it was delicious, but we couldn’t figure out what it was. Turns out, it was sweet potato! Now I know that sweet potato isn’t exactly exotic, but it made me wonder about far-out flavors that you bees have tried. So tell me about the wild flavors you’ve tasted!
Tell me the flavor, plus if you hated it, loved it or were too scared to try it!

I’m not a fan of cake to be honest so the craziest thing I’ve had was lemon.. which I hated. My favorite is red velvet though.

one wedding I attended had an almond/amaretto-flavored cake… it was absolutely delicious.

Mountain dew cake! lol I don’t think this is very wedding-ish though! (At least I don’t think?) haha I made the cake & my husband & I both LOVED it!

I made a pomegranate cake and it was wonderful.

The green tea cakes were good. They were petit four style with a creamy fondant style (but it wasn’t fondant) frosting and each one was topped with a slice of starfruit. Very light and refreshing! Served cold.

Not really exotic, but I LOVE tiramisu cake! Coffee flavored cake, cocoa cream cheese frosting! YUM! I’m also considering DIYing this my wedding cake in this flavor! I may do one tier of regular vanilla, though, since not everybody likes coffee.

Mountain Dew cake? Sounds good. For a wedding, though? I’m from the South…don’t put it past some rednecks ’round here, LOL!

I had a durian flavored cake before and it was…odd. Things people come up with.

I see some interesting flavors here. I’ve heard of green tea, but never tried it. I would really like to try lavender!
@ Sheepshead I absolutely know what you mean. Fiance and I agreed “no fruit filling!” We are doing one tier with a chocolate buttercream, but no complex flavor combinations.
@Mrs.Estep :I’ve never thought of Moutain Dew cake. I will have to look up the recipe, I know someone who is going to love that one!
@Olive12 Ok, you have to give me a description of this “weirdness.” I have heard so many things about durian fruit and it’s pungency. One of my sister’s coworkers had a friend bring one back and ended up double-bagging it and throwing it away. How bad was it?

I actually don’t mind the smell of the durian. I grew up eating it so though the smell is pungent and strong, it’s not totally unbearable. However the cake I had (at a family member’s baby shower) was not what I expected. Most durian I eat are sweet so I expected the cake to be as well. This cake itself was sweet but the fruit baked in it became dry and slightly sour. I guess the sweetness seeped out. It wasn’t a good mix. It was just odd. I don’t really know how to explain it.
