Don’t mean to keep a dead thread alive but you must not forget the price of alterations. I don’t know the shape, height, or size of your wedding party, but as a short women, with a larger bust I ALWAYS have to get my clothes altered. This goes for formal gowns as well! That $300 is going to increase depending on what alterations need to be made. Also remember, that your BMs may also be spending money on shoes, accessories, hair, bridal shower and other wedding related expenses. You know that the finances of your Bridesmaid or Best Man and Maid/Matron of Honor are better than anyone else on this board…so hopefully this less expensive alternative will work for you guys!! Good luck! Make sure you give us the update!

I would actually drop out of your wedding rather than pay $700 for a dress to wear once. Honestly, I make good money, but there are just too many places that money needs to go – we are saving for a house, we want to be able to pay for our future kid’s college, we want to retire….$700 would be a nice chunk of change to any of those understandable places. Definitely find a cheaper alternative somewhere else!

I’m glad you found another option, but $300 is still too much. It’s a beautiful dress, but you guys have to stop thinking about yourselves for one moment and think about what this is going to do to your bridal party. $300 for the dress turns into much more with alterations, shoes, hair, nails, chipping in for your bridal shower, b-party, gifts, ect. I would never ever ask my girls to spend more than $150. If they find something they love above that then they can make that choice, but I’m not going to require it. Where do you think an 18 year old just out of high school and going into college is going to get all of this money?

Unless you two are willing to pitch in half of what that dress costs, I would just get over it and find something else. You may have a certain vision, but other people still have to save up while trying to live also.

@WineAndCupcakes: But it’s not you two making it work, it’s your bridesmaids. And it’s seriously groom/bride-zillaish to even consider asking them to spend so much, despite how much your Fiance has decided he loves this dress that he is not wearing, his wife is not wearing, and you two are not paying for. I agree with Miss Tattoo that unless you are paying for like half of it, this is just completely unreasonable.
