The most I paid (the only time I had to buy one) was $260 and from what I hear it’s on the higher end for Bridesmaid or Best Man dress…and it’s not a dress I can really wear again, but my friend did buy a dress to be in my wedding and though my options were cheaper I didn’t care.  It made her happy to have that dress so we all bought without complaint.  If it were anything over $300 I would be upset….the cap for my dresses was $200.

i think my dress for my sil’s wedding was around $400. my bms’ dresses were about $300, but i paid for 1/2 for a few of the girls (i had asked them before choosing a dress for the most they would be comfortable spending, and then paid a portion for the girls who couldn’t afford the one my moh, sil/bm, and i chose). i thought that was over the top–and it was a designer dress (my bms wore amsale). so yeah, $700 is a LOT. i definitely think you can find something gorgeous for a more reasonable price.

@WineAndCupcakes: Oh dear, you weren’t kidding. The dresses are gorgeous and your Fiance has couture taste! It’s sweet that he’s contributing to the process, welcome to wedding planning!

You’ve gotten a lot of feedback here…I appreciated @Butterbee:

@WineAndCupcakes:  I guess I just experienced the post cut-off problem…I liked the link to the wholesale site, or you could hire a seamstress, or even use the photo as an inspiration to find a similar style that is more affordable πŸ™‚

I wouldn’t want to pay $700 for a dress, no matter how much money I make! it’s definitely too much.

it’s a pretty dress though.

I was super self-conscious about asking my friends to pay for their own dresses, so I told them they can wear a formal black dress of their choice, any store, as long as I pre-approve it.  so even if they already have something in their closet that they love, or if it came from old navy, I’m ok with them wearing it as long as it looks nice!

My friends Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses were $250. Needless to say it was too expensive.

Friend or not, I think my answer to you would be to tell you where you and your Fiance could shove the dress.  lol  I didn’t pay that much for my wedding dress and I still cringed at paying what I did!  There is no way -even if hell froze over- that I would pay $700 for a BRIDESMAID dress!

Good luck with getting him back to planet Earth!  πŸ˜›

Why is Fiance so interested in Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses? Stick him on the groomsmen…just make sure he doesn’t ask them to buy custom, Italian made suits!

Must expensive Bridesmaid or Best Man dress I bought was $420 for a strapless top and column skirt. I was 22 and in my first wedding. I didn’t know to push back. I vener wore it and gave it to charity a few months ago.

Oddly, the girl who picked a full skirt (bride let us pick skirts) paid under $400 for her dress, which was 6 sizes larger than mine. Insanity.

I’m sorry, but your Fiance is coming across as seriously selfish for wanting your BMs to spend $700 on a dress. And that’s what I would tell him, that it would be very awful and selfish of you guys to ask your BMs to spend that much and that you refuse to do it.

It is good that you are looking into different options. There are so many duplicate and repetitive styles out there that you will definitely be able to find a similar style or have dresses made.
