If he loves the dress so much, buy one for you to wear to a fancy dinner on your honeymoon.

@WineAndCupcakes:  I am in agreement with many of the PP’s.  Some ladies wouldn’t even pay $700 for their own wedding gown, much less a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress.  To be honest, unless you plan to pay $500 for each of the girls dresses and they pay the difference, you shouldn’t even be considering it.  I may sound harsh here, but anything more than $200-250 for a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress seems outrageous to me!  (The most I ever spent was $225, plus about $150 in alterations).

I can see why you both love it but I agree $700 is way too much to expect them to pay. It’s doubtful that they will wear it again either, it’s a very formal dress.

Aside from the price barrier, in my experience picking a dress for myself and my BMs, the dresses we picked are NOTHING like what I originally had in mind. I really recommend getting your BMs to try on a few different dresses before you make a decision.

My BM’s dresses were $250 and I felt a bit guilty, but I struggled to find anything under $300, so $250 seemed like a bargain. Clothes are more expensive in Australia unfortunately. I found their shoes for $15 so that makes up for it somewhat! I’m paying for their alterations, accessories and I’m going to pay for either their hair or make up.

I made a deal with my girls that I’d pay anything over $135, so when I stand up in theirs- I expect the same treatment actually! If they weren’t such broke asses (can’t blame them, we’re young- and they’d prefer to spend the money on boob jobs, $160 dresses for Vegas, and trips to Ibeza) and would have paid the full $185 for their dresses, I would say I’d go up to $250 but that just isn’t the case with them.

I agree, that is WAY too much. That’s more than half the cost of my wedding gown! I have so far only been asked to be in one wedding, and she is probably choosing a DB dress so it will prob be less than $150. The dress I picked for my girls is $169. I think anything over $200 is pushing it, and $300 and above is ridiculous.

$700 is waaaaaaaaay too much for a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress!!! I would say $200 tops, and that’s for people with steady incomes. You can’t in good conscience ask someone who’s unemployed or about to start college to fork over so much money for somebody else’s wedding, no matter how good a friend or relative. (I make a good income, but I would probably back out of being in the wedding party if the bride asked me to spend $700. It’s just too much money, regardless of whether or not I like the dress.)

Sorry, but $300 is still too much. Your Fiance needs to get over it, he’s being unreasonable. He isn’t the one paying for or wearing the dress!
