Fiance & I just moved into our townhome….with literally nothing to our names but what we’ve got from the wedding shower, & our clothes. Sad day, Lol.
This meant a trip to target (only went there bc we HAD gift cards)! We bought groceries, hangers, cleaning supplies, and a bed (from big lots- for $200.00 bucks & its beautiful!) So saturday we spent about $800 -$440.00 at target-the rest at big lots. Thankfully we only ended up paying about $100 bucks at target, but still.. I was sad to see those gift cards go 🙁 My dad also made a trip to home depot for house type things we needed. Go dad!!
Now after two nights- we are stilll missing sooo many essentials! Now a trip to walmart – I prefer HEB. But ugh. I don’t even want to know what I’m going to spend today.
What’s the most you’ve ever spent at a grocery store? I think $440.00 was the most for me! Tell me your stories!!!

It is amazingly easy to spend $250+ at Costco, since you are buying big packs of everything! I think I have spent close to $900 there before (that included some electronics).

Never more then $300 at a time.

I think the most we have ever spent on groceries was like $175, but there are only 2 of us, and we tend to eat reletively small portions (we usually split a chicken breast, forexample, with sides)
Also, we eat very few boxed/canned things, so since we eat a lot of fresh things, we have to go about every 10 days

The most I’ve spent is about $300. My brother, who has 4 kids, spent $990 at Costco once!

@futurepilotswife_: I miss the fk out of HEB. I used to work in their corp HQ in SA! I think the most we’ve spent is when we go to Costco…around $300.

$550 at Costco but it was also for a party so it doesn’t really count.
Usually around $250 is a huge shop for us

Holy cow! I don’t think that’s your average grocery trip though so it makes sense that you bought more. The day I moved out I spent well over $1k with my then Boyfriend or Best Friend, and that was bringing some furniture from home. $400 on a mattress and box spring, $100 on towels, miscellaneous other essentials plus food and cleaning supplies. It all adds up fast.

Our usual grocery trips are $150-$250 or so. $350 is a biggie.

I think when I moved out for the first time (from parents’ house), I probably spent like $500 at Wal-Mart because i had to buy everything from food to laundry baskets, but I haven’t spent anything like that since. Back when I was with my ex and we went to COSTCO I think we spent $300-$400, but that wasn’t exactly a regular thing for us either.

Our usual grocery trips (one grocery store + a market) is typically about $100. Sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more. It evens out though. At least once a year we throw a party, and the food for that can add up. We always do a holiday party, and this past year we easily spent $400+. We had lamb, a nice cheese plate, wine, some beer (we had two types of beer besides that in our kegerator, one of which we made), some fish, etc. Plus at least a few dishes for the veggies and vegans. We’ve only had the party once in the summer, but we’re doing it this year to celebrate one year left in my partner’s program plus to celebrate eloping. I’m not sure how involved the food for that will be, but I expect to spend $300+. However, for you, if you had nothing, not even staples, I can see having to part with some change at the store!

When I moved in with Fiance, he had next to nothing to eat aside from snack foods. He has a lunch allowance with his university, so eats that meal on campus. For dinner he’d either eat take-out or a cobbled together meal of crackers, cheese, and sausage. Every now and again, I can understand, but seriously it was every night. After a day of taking inventory, throwing away expired stuff, and rearranging stuff to make room for food storage, we went grocery shopping and spent almost $300 in one trip. That’s WITH coupons AND taking advantage of the shopper’s card deals. It was staggering.

We try to go to the grocery once every week and a half-two weeks and have never spent more then $150. I try to keep it around $100 and that feeds my SO and I plus my 18 month old.

We go to the grocery store once a week for fresh produce, milk, bread, the staples, and it comes out to about $50 a week. However, once every few months we’ll go to Costco for items in bulk or load up on an item on sale that can be frozen like meat, and those shopping trips can hit well into $300-$400. The first move into a new place is the most expensive bc you have to replace evrything. Thank goodness it happens only once!
