@CorgiTales & Brit: Nowadays, it’s worn up on your thigh.  The below-the-knee thing is probably a throwback to when women had to keep their ankles covered ;o)

This might be a regional thing, but we wore garters to our prom as well.  Mine was baby blue and from Claire’s.  I got my cousin a nicer one for her prom last year :o)

@ hotchildinthecity – Now that you mention it, I remember wearing a garter to my prom too. I had a dress with a side slit and I remember taking silly photos with my girlfriends showing off our sexy garters. lol.

@PoliB: Me too!  There’s definitely a picture of me and my girlfriends in front of the limo with our dresses pulled up to show the garter ;oP  What were we thinking? haha

Yeah I thought garter tosses were immature (not necessarily tacky) but my fiance insisted he wants to do it, so here I am looking at garters. I am buying two and keeping one down near the knee (where a mini skirt would hit.  And I plan on having the other one a LOT higher up.

I did say, nothing but the hands go up that skirt in front of public though! I will not be having my catholic 85yr grandmother be having another heart attack at my wedding 😛

I do love garters and am known to wear them all the time with halloween costumes and silly attires for club night with my girls and all that fun stuff 🙂

<span style=”font-family: tahoma, verdana; font-size: 13px;”>@sleepylittlesailor and @RecessionistaBride – I couldn’t agree more!  I think the whole garter removal and toss is tacky, tacky, tacky.

<span style=”font-family: tahoma, verdana; font-size: 13px;”>I’m wearing the garter my Mom wore at her wedding, but there will not be a public removal or toss.  Not happening at all!

I didn’t really get the whole thing either, and I didn’t wear one. I got one free with my wedding dress, but just sold it after the wedding lol

We actually had the garter toss at our wedding and it was done in good taste since there were kiddies and my family around. My hubby reached for it with his hands only. We even had a little skit where my hubby was “flying” in like Superman with his SM cape that I bought for him as his gift. It was hilarious and good clean fun!

I have to tell you that I could not wait to get that garter off. It was sooo itchy and I was so hot that it irritated my skin. By the end of the night, I had it on my calf where it was much more comfy.

I’m in hysterics! So funny. I’ve seen it done only once and I remember it being awkward like we felt like we were voyueristic and watching something we shouldn’t be. He took it off with his teeth and everything Eeeek xo

I really had no idea about the garter toss before reading the Bee; I always assumed they were a bit of a cute surprise for the groom on his wedding night.

In the UK we do a bouquet toss – I still find it really weird to read about the bouquet and the garter toss going hand in hand or not being able to have one without the other.

Just throw the damn flowers and leave the underwear in peace.

Also, while I’m at it, why all the fuss about only single women participating in the bouquet toss?  I’ve been to weddings where everyone gets involved, it’s much more fun and without all the ‘humiliation’ of being dragged up for being single.

Give granny a chance to catch those flowers.

RecessionistaBride :  LOL especially when the old ‘junk in the trunk’ joke is used- he’s pulling everything uner the sun out from under your dress. Blech.
