Siobhan713:   I think probably the worst comment was from my mother. We are now estranged,  but at the time were very close and I’m pretty sure she was well-meaning. However,  the comment is something that sticks with me now and doesn’t feel very ‘nice’. I’ll let you all decide.

Just shy of 3 years ago, my mom saw my ring for the first time (I’d had it for about 9 months at that time). We were talking about rings,  the wedding,  and future financial decisions. I mentioned that my fiance (now husband)  and I wanted to get a house and she said,  “wow,  moving ahead fast,  huh? If he wanted to spend that much [on various things]  he could have bought you a bigger diamond.”

For the record,   I told my husband a few months before we got engaged that I would be very upset if he bought a ring that he couldn’t afford. So,  he bought me a $2,500 half-carat Princess cut solitaire ring because that’s what he had in his bank account (he was newly-graduated from college and was making $10 an hour).  Sure,  he could have bought me huge $10K ring through financing,  but there’s something about having debt on an engagement that really turns me off.  I also wouldn’t want to acquire debt on my own ring once we got married.

One day,  I’ll have a bigger ring,  but not until we have the cash flow to conveniently do so.

Sorry for the long rant!

It was a shock as I look young baby face for my 28yrs lol and this woman was grey haired approx in her 50’s. I’ve told myself in my mind she was just jealous of my baby face/massive ring lol x

Drizzle:  it would be a very boring world especially the bee if we all had the same ring. As the saying goes

one mans trash is another man’s treasure x

I haven’t gotten any rude comments, but several people have assumed that I’m not married. I can’t wrap my head around some if the things that have been said to you guys. I’ve seen some rings that I wasn’t crazy about, but exclaiming, “Wow! That’s wonderful! Congratulations!” seems to work just fine. There’s no reason to put someone down over a ring.

No one said anything rude to me about my ring. It’s a black diamond that I’m guessing is 1c in weight, it’s on a swirly fancy band with smaller white diamonds. People know I’m a free spirit, and they expected whatever I got to be a little different. Before the proposal I was telling my then bf that I like a like a ring with color to it, something that isn’t clear. I suggested gemstones, red is my favorite color so I suggested rubies right away. I also saw a woman once with a pearl e-ring which was GORGOUS, so I suggested pearls as well. But my Fiance felt pressured to buy a diamond from all the jewlery commericals out there. I acually wear an onxy ring on a silver band all the time, I caught him studing it one day. I think that was his inspiration to pick a black diamond.

It’ sddifferent and classy, amd I love it. I got nothing but compliments from it. This one woman was talking about hiw much she loved it while she was putting a filling in my mouth which is an odd time, but I’m glad I haven’t gotten any rude comments.

Rabia:  agreed!! If there wasn’t ring variety, it would be SO boring…then everyone would be pissy because they would accuse you of “copying” them. Can’t win there, lol.

I have a step-sister in law, and we get along for the sake of family but don’t quite like each other.. she has made rude comments about our family not being “family” etc.. anyways I was newly engaged and we saw them as well as my sisters for the first time.  As my mom was looking at it telling me how nice it looked (they were passing it around since we were at a long table)  she made the comment “Wow, that just looks too big”.. my ring is not hge or anything 1 1/2 carats total (I think), it is significantly larger than hers.. I didn’t realize a ring coudl be “too big”

Here is my ring:

We had a small get together with his family two days after we got engaged and no-one asked to see the ring, that was a huge letdown.

BridetoBee2017:  dude, what a cunt! I would have said- “I don’t know, I haven’t been there lately, but perhaps when you find a man to actually give you a ring, you can lend him your frequent shopper card to get you yours from there.”. Eww!

I didn’t actually get any horribly rude comments… but I wear just one ring, an e ring, with no wedding band. I initally looked at bands, but I prefer my e ring on its own. My dh does wear a wedding band though.

I had a few people ask after we were married, ‘where is the band? Arent’ you going to get a wedding band?’ to which I replied ‘nope’ and then there were a few puzzled expressions. It didn’t bother me, I just smiled. I’m pretty traditional by nature so I”m sure people expected that I would have one.

SmartCookie1:  This just happened to me the other day.  I do plan to get a band one day, but I feel my ring looks good on it’s, so I have not been fussed about it.  The person that said something KNOWS I am married too, so it was just weird all around.
