Um, yes, that is just strange.  I get alot of bizarre requests, I really don’t know where some people come up with this stuff.

I think it’s beyond bizarre that I’m expected to invite people that I haven’t met, simply because we are related by blood. Ummm no thanks, I’d rather save those invites for people that I ACTUALLY know and love, blood relation or not. I haven’t seen one of my cousins in over 10 years, he has a baby mama and two kids that I have never met, don’t know what they even look like. I know that so many relatives are going to be pisses that I’m inviting most, but not all, of my cousins. Its a wedding, not a family reunion!!!

@karenski: My family has a big get-together every single summer. Two of my cousins, the one I mentioned previously and his sister, haven’t came to one of these gatherings since I was 14-15 and I will be 26 when I get married!!! So if they want to see the family, they have had numerous opportunities and I don’t want them using my wedding as an “excuse” I think it would be terribly awkward to have to greet these people like hug hug kiss kiss I have missed you etc when essentially I don’t even know anything about them

I’ve posted this before, but the suggestion that makes me laugh the most is from my very conservative Future Mother-In-Law saying she wants to take Fiance out for a “bachelor night” the night before.  Fiance nixed that right away, but I still wonder, what in the world did she want to do?  What would she consider a “bachelor night?”

@Bostonsmom: It totally amazes me how many people think weddings are “family reunions”.

I had a cousin, who disowned me (sorta), email me saying “Can’t wait for your wedding, great excuse for a family reunion!” Yea. You’re NOT invited.

It can be so contradictory. On one hand people tell you your wedding should be with the people you’re nearest and dearest with. Then, those same people get offended when you tell them you’re not inviting great aunt petunia, or cousin george who you haven’t seen since you were 6! Sorry, but those aren’t my nearest and dearest!

@karenski: We’re having a very intimate immediate family only wedding, and my mother expected me to invite my 2 1/2 brothers & 1/2 sister…. which looks reasonable when written out like that, but my parents divorced when I was five, I haven’t seen or talked these people for well over 20 years, have no memory of them, my dad passed awhile back (didn’t talk to them himself while alive) & pretty much every other guest is very close to both me & Fiance. Plus I don’t know them, they might as well be strangers! I feel you not wanting strangers throwing you a party, I’d be the same exact way- it would just be uncomfortable & feel fake to me. I think weddings just make people act strangely 🙂

I was talking to my mom and she was brining up little things I might want to incorporate.  Some were valid like if I wanted to somehow incorporate some of her dress into my attire, she made a garter out of pieces of her dress for my sister.  That’s fine.  The suggestion she gave me that seem completely nutty was asking if I wanted to wear a pin from the ’84 Summer olympics in LA.  I was born that summer in LA but really…. a pin from the olympics??  My mom can be very strange sometimes.

My family thinks that my wedding is a chance to grab my photographer for a photoshoot of their families.

Umm my wedding is not family portrait time! Especially when they just mean their family of 4 (not me) and them and their siblings.

I’ve had people expect me to drive them to the airport in the middle of my reception!
