@Bichon Frise:  OMG that sounds like one I gave a guy, but in my case it was actually true. It was during the 2002 Winter Olympics, and I was addicted to figure skating. A guy I knew (before FI’s time) called me up and asked me to go dinner and salsa dancing. I told him I couldn’t bc I didn’t want to miss Michelle Kwan skating. Clearly, this was before TIVO.

I was FOURTEEN at an amusement park with my best friend, her boyfriend and this guy she was trying to set me up with. I emphasis 14 because I really didnt know any better. I was not attracted to him b/c I thought his nose was too big so I told him I was feeling really nauseous all of a sudden and wanted to go home.

My friend knew the truth and a few hours later called me to tell me that she let him know it was the size of his nose that was making me nauseous. POOR KID!!! I ran into him 5 years later at a college party (he went to my college) and he still wouldn’t talk to me !

OMG! When my best friend was seeing an older guy (at the time, we were 21ish and he was 33), he mentioned that his good friend was single. She decided she’d set us up…I had seen the friend before, and thought he was good looking, even though he was substantially older. Well, she let it slip that the friend I’d be going out with was 44!

I wanted to cancel, so got his # and left a long winded voicemail about how I had a really bad sinus infection and had all sorts of green mucus. I kid you not….so, safe to say, he never called me back. The catch?? He is a DEAN at the school I worked at for the last 2 years. Whoops!!!

@aicila:  That’s probably the funniest and best excuse I’ve ever heard!

I once blamed the cat and said I couldn’t go out b/c I had to go home and feed her. Poor guy must have thought that I thought he was the biggest loser for me to pick feeding my cat over going out with him.

In my defense, I had a bf but I somehow thought that blaming my cat was less harsh than blurting ” I already have a boyfriend!” in his face.

I once ran into a kid I used to know in middle school at a party when I was like 19. He did not interest me but I talked to him because I was only there as a wingman for my friend who was making out in the woods and I didn’t know anyone else. He asked for my number or asked if I wanted his and I was like no thanks I don’t have a phone.

I took my phone out about 8 times to check the time and he just looked at it like “uhhh…”

When I was a freshman in college, there was a friend who liked me more than that.  When it came time to explain to him why I wouldn’t date him, my reason was because “I was not done dating assholes, yet.”

True to the statement I wasn’t.  But was quite finished 3 years later when Darling Husband and I met!

I don’t remember the excuse, but I remember one guy got annoyed and called me out on my bluff and went “you know, you could have just told me ‘no'”. Ouch. I felt like kind of an a** after that.

There was also one I remember really vividly; I told this guy that I didn’t want to go out with him because I barely knew him and the next day, he brought me an itemized list of facts about him.

I’ve faked an “emergency” phone call on a date more than once. In fact, I’ve texted people to call me so that I can answer and fake.
