When I was in high school, I saw a guy propose to his girlfriend in an IHOP at 1 in the morning and he made a big ridiculous scene about it in front of the entire restaurant. She was mortified, and it was awful.
I was wondering if anyone else had seen or heard of horrible proposals, or proposals gone bad, tacky proposals, etc. If you have, please share!

I saw the youtube vid of the guy who proposed to his Girlfriend at a NBA game and her reaction was to shake her head “no” and bail.
But it was cute when the mascot comforted him. Ha ha ha.

It wasn’t real but I think it’s a funny story:
One of my housemates in college had an internship at the State House. She cut across the Boston Common every day from the the T, and one day a homeless guy accosted her and proposed. The kicker is that a family of tourists thought it was real and started videotaping!
From how she described it, I feel like it should have been obvious that they were NOT a couple, lol.

@makemake: Oh, any proposal story I hear about that ends with the girl saying “no” is just overwhelmingly painful to hear. Ack!
@vermonster: That is creepy! And to think, somewhere in the world her weird experience is documented!

@LilliePad: I knowwww….. but in this girl’s defense, I think the story is that they had only been dating for ~3 weeks or some REALLY brief period of time. And you can tell in the video that she’s drop dead gorgeous. The dude was probably just coming at her WAAAAAY too fast/heavy. It didn’t sound like he had any reason to expect a “yes” which makes his public proposal even more awful… it’s like he thought she couldn’t say “no” if it were on national TV!

I’ll chime in here…. mine isn’t the worst, but I was certainly a little disappointed in my now husband.
We had been together for 4 years and last winter my then fiance, plotted a way to get me up to my parents cabin for the weekend to propose. He got my family involved, was going to be a weekend with my family then they all started bailing on us. So in the end I didn’t suspect a thing. SO Friday night we head up, have a great night, fire’s going, wine is being drank, we cooked a nice dinnner, played some cards. Saturday morning he gets up early and drives back in the city for the entire day because he had a curling game. They had enough players that he could have not gone and stayed up with me but he wanted to curl. So he finally makes it back around 5, we have a drink and dinner (that I cooked for him) and then went for a nice winter walk. After the walk, we got back to the cabin, poured a drink, sat by the fire and he proposed.
This is by no means the worst as the weekend as a whole was lovely but I was a little bothered that he wouldn’t skip his game to stay at the lake with me and perhaps cook me dinner!! I told him he owes me another proposal! lol.

I used to work at a local fancy-pants steak house. The guy proposed to the girl over dinner with a fairly large diamond ring, she said yes, nothing too exciting….. until the bill came and his bank card and credit card were denied! He had to leave his new fiance at the restaurant as ‘colateral’ while he went to the bank ‘to see what the problem was’, poor girl waited at the restaurant for about an hour and a half.

@PoppyH: that sounds rough!
When I was in law school, a friend of mine’s Boyfriend or Best Friend decided to propose to her right after we got out of class. It’s a flood of students rushing to get the hell out of there. She’s in her lounge clothes bc everyone is dressed casually, and her Boyfriend or Best Friend gets down on one knee right by the elevators. She was not pleased.

@delicious: Oh thank god! I cringed so bad when I saw that.
Mine was pretty bad.. but actually fitting for us 😀 We were in an LDR for the first 1 and a half years of our relationship but we skyped every time we could.. like having the laptop with me while I was cooking/eating dinner or watching a movie. So he proposed out of the blue in the middle of the night without ring on skype.
I never got a re-do even when we picked out the ring and picked it up together. We just got it from the store and I popped it on my finger faster than he could do anything about it 😀 I wouldn’t have it any other way, though.

My best friend’s husband proposed to her on vacation. They had a beautiful day snorkeling, hiking, enjoying the beach, having a beautiful dinner and a classy restaurant and then going out to a bar for a few drinks.
After all that, he decided to propose at the end of the night after they left the bar.
Only problem was that she was drunk. She said “yes”, but was so mad at him the next day.

I saw the video of the guy who faked his own death and then proposed…I think that’s pretty bad!

I have a friend who’s now-husband had a perfect proposal planned. He took her wine tasting and to a really nice, expensive dinner, and rented a gorgeous hotel room for them. They had a great day and evening, and the proposal went perfect – the entire restaurant applauded when he proposed and she said yes. The problem? He doesn’t drink wine often, and was so nervous he kept drinking and ended up drunk. He spent the entire night of their engagement on the floor of the hotel bathroom, throwing up! She was pissed!
