I stopped BC 4+5 ago and had a withdrawal bleed a few days later. Then this week I have had my first proper period in YEARS (I had the mirena IUS followed by the progesterone only pill) and I was really happy to see it. It meant my body was returning back to normal, and I could start taking note of my cycle ready for September when start NTNT.
3 days on, I’m so over it. It hurts, I feel crabby and I’d forgotten how gross it is. All messy and smelly. Yuk.
So come on bees. Too Much Information time.
What do you hate? And how do you deal with it?

I hate the cramps! But I also hate wearing pads – it feels disgusting, and I’m always paranoid some got on my pants. I tried using tampons a handful of times, but I hate wearing them (long story), so I have to use pads.
Hang in there! 🙂

I’ve got endometriosis and whenever I have my period, the pain is about 100x worse than it ever was years ago! I literally get to the point of pain where I can’t walk, sit, move, cross my legs, nothing! Plus, I always get sick. I will get a fever and be nauseated and dizzy. The pain literally is the worst for me though, scale of 1-10 it’s an 11!! I’ve even had surgery to remove some of the tissue adhesions since I had some tissue that was pulling on my ovary. Completely miserable…

Sparkidoodle: I also went years without a period thanks to birth control! When I got my implanon out and started my first period after so long, I swear my body was trying to make up for 4 years of no period! I hurt so bad!!! I never had bad period cramps before but now I have to sleep on a heating pad during my period. Darling Husband of course doesn’t understand the pain but he knows I can’t sleep if I’m hot so if I am in enough pain to sleep with a heating pad that makes me sweat, it’s pretty significant!!

Sparkidoodle: I have endo. I have only had 3 natural periods in the last 12 years as I’m on hormonal BC, and I’ve not had a period for 4 years now since starting on Cerazette. My periods on hormonal BC were very manageable: very light, and little-no pain.
My natural periods are another story. I’d say the pain was the worst thing as it left me bed-bound for 3 days every 28 days, vomiting and delirious. Even going to the toilet was difficult. I also suffered severe bowel pain to the point I would black out briefly on the toilet, and also severe pain during intercourse for the days around my period. But the ‘mess’ was also pretty bad; my flow was so heavy that I would soak through a super tampon coupled with a night-time towel in under an hour (nights were horrendous, as was school), and I regularly ruined my knickers and bed-linen (had to bring spare knickers to school and sleep in old knickers, setting my alarm for every few hours so I could change my sanitary wear). I also passed a lot of large clots, urgh!
So yeah, I had a pretty bad experience overall, but the pain was the worst bit because I didn’t know what I was doing and couldn’t concentrate on anything (I missed a lot of school). I’m so thankful for hormonal BC and will never come off it.

One bad thing about my period is the terrible headache I get on day one of it.
The other bad thing is the fact that IT MEANS I’M NOT PREGNANT, WAAAAAAHHHHHH

I share your pain. I’ve been on the pill for about 10 years now. I recently got married and we’ll probably TTC in about a year or so. I told my doctor I was thinking about going off the pill soon just to start charting and such and she warned me that I probably don’t even remember how annoying it is to get my period. The pills make them pretty much non-existant. The doctor was right. For whatever reason I had my first real period in years this week (not sure why – still on the same pills I’ve always been on) and it was ANNOYING. It hurt, I felt bloated, it was messy (didn’t even have any pads/tampons in the house). I’d forgotten how sucky cramps can be.

CRAMPS. They are so painful that I have to seriously drug myself. If I don’t take a high dose of pain meds in time and the pain takes hold, I’m pretty much screwed. Once they start, nothing helps.

Ugh, it’s totally the mess, and along with it the fact that I feel gross and unsexy (so no sex).

For me it’s the cramps and the overall grossness I feel. On my period my carmps get so bad that I can’t even get out of bed some days, I’ve had to call into work before. No good.

Sparkidoodle: The worst bit is the pain 🙁 I have a bowel condition and on my period my tummy and tail bone feel so sore. A bit Too Much Information but I generally can’t go to the toilet during the first week so once my period is over I feel clogged up and sore. I’ve been on the pill for 4 years and finally have a normal life.

barbie86: I have massively bad bleeding with my endo too! I know exactly how that feels to completely soak through super tampons and a pad within an hour. It makes travel and going out miserable…
