While I don’t have cold sores I know what you mean. I started to get really bad adult acne a year ago. I went to a doctor to get medicine and the medicine made is much worse before it got better. People I didn’t know felt it was OK to come up to me and tell me that I was really pretty but I needed to take care of my acne. My boss made comments, family, friends. I didn’t want to leave the house, and I was really appalled by the things people said.

People sometimes don’t really think about how hurtful the things they say are! I hope it heals quickly! Hang in there *hugs*.

When I was in HS, one of my friends had ocular herpes–yes, herpes in her eye. The sores there provoked a lot of this kind of reaction, and although it was usually a knee-jerk, speaking-before-thinking thing it was awful for her. I’m really sorry you’re going through this.

I get cold sores too-so I feel your pain. But to say those things to you is SO rude. I know I feel like a total leper until mine are gone and I want to just burrow under the covers too.

You weren’t asking for advice but if you want to get rid of those faster, put ice on them every hour. I just put a few cubes in a Baggie and hold it to the sore for about 10-15 minutes.

It cuts the swelling and redness way down, also, I do this the VERY second I feel a tingle or even the slight beginning of a sore and I’ve been able to ice them out of existence before they even break.

Good luck, chin up:)

I’m so sorry that you had to hear that.  I get really bad cystic acne, especially when stressed, and nothing fixes it.  One girl asked me that in front of a whole room of people, and I couldn’t look her in the eye for weeks.  Stay strong.  You’ll heal up.  *hugs*

I have chronic eczema on my shins (currently, it’s been all over at some point over the last 12 years), and have had to endure tons of rude tactless comments. As if those people asking don’t ever get a giant blemish or whatever. Just ignore it, as hard as it is.

I’ve had them too since I was a child, they crop up whenever I am stressed.  I have found that Abreva Works really well!  As soon as I feel one coming on, I start using it and it really shortens the time I have it!  I swear by it and love it!

Ugh- I just saw you said it’s not working this time.  I’ve never heard of the ice thing either, will have to try that.  The other thing I hate, is even once the coldsore is gone, I always have a scab there for like a week!  Not much better!

I have skin tags on my neck, not visually appealing to be sure of. I had co worker asked if they were contagious while backing away from me. :/

@RobandLil0107:  take a q-tip and put Vaseline on it in between icings. That should help a bit.

PutABirdOnIt +1 My husband has a cold sore right now (poor thing) and he’s been keeping it really hydrated with some of that medicated chap stick. It’s clearing up quite quickly.

Wow, if those are adults saying to to you that’s awful.  The little kids I work with are politer than that.  (I get cold sores pretty often myself).  Sometimes kids ask what’s wrong, which is fine… but the comment I get from adults the most is: “Stress?”
