I was going through my closest and I realized something… my wardrobe is like 98% jeans and t-shirts. This is was fine when I was in college, but I’m feeling like I should probably update it a little. To be honest though, I’m having trouble distinguishing what’s nice “everyday” clothes and what would be considered overdressed. So instead of looking at magazines/internet ads, what are you real people wearing? I plan on doing some people watching once our weather clears up (in like a week 🙁 ) but I would love to hear from you guys too.
and in case it matters… I’m a small 22 year old female.

I’m in the same boat. I’m still in grad school and spend all my working day in a basement lab, so I dress in jeans and t-shirts. Also, can’t afford nice clothes on my salary. After I graduate I feel I’ll be clueless about how to spruce up for the real world. Sorry I can only sympathize and not give advice.

@gingernutjo: Actually, it’s nice to hear I’m not the only one with this problem! Earler I was getting fiarly depressed because I was like how one earth am I going to function as a adult when I can’t even dress myself. It was pitiful.
Plus I can totally empathize with the price of clothes. T-shirts are nice and cheap.

I wear jeans, but they are nice jeans! I wear nice tops, I rarely wear t-shits except in the summer. I get a lot of cute tops at tjmaxx because I don’t like to pay too much for my shirts. I also wear a lot of dresses and ocassionally I wear skirts. I also wear nice leather sandals in the summer and frye boots the rest of the year.

I wear a lot of sundresses when it’s warm and wool skirts/tights or boots in the winter.
I prefer to wear stretchy pant fabrics, like leggings, or stretch denim capris when I have to wear pants.
Also, I’m obsessed with cardigan sweaters.

@MiraJo: Your definitely not alone. Just to cheer you up: Today i actually tried to put on mascara for work. It was going okay until some flaked off about half way through the day. It went right in my eye and was so sore I had to wash it out, which of course made the mascara run everywhere. I’m now sporting one eye with makeup and one without, which is really obvious since my lashes are blonde! Hahaha – now I am thankfull for my basement lab!

Well since it’s hot and the humidity is atrocious lately, I only wear black tank tops and shorts or sundresses, + casual wedge or flat sandals. During the winter I’ll wear a dress with leggings, boots, and a cardigan. In the spring I wear skinny jeans with cute closed-toe wedges and loose knit tops, maybe a summer scarf.
I think jeans and tee shirts can be smartened up with the right shoes and accessories. I hardly ever wear tee shirts because I’m small with big boobs and they look bad on me especially if the neckline is high. I tend to go with low-cut black tanks all year long, but I think the idea is the same, especially if your tee shirts are fitted or plain.

@fzesguer: Do you usually wear the cardigan with the sundresses?
Plus I’m having a heck of a time dealing with spaghetti straps if anyone would like to shed some insight on how to hide bra straps

I usually wear casual dresses. And the 100% honest reason? They’re easy. One piece of clothing, don’t have to worry about coordinating pieces, and they’re much more comfortable than shorts/pants. In fact, until a couple weeks ago I didn’t even own a pair of shorts haha whoops! In the winter I wear tunic tops and leggings if its too cold for a dress.
So yeah, people think I’m trying to look cute, but in reality I’m lazy and way more concerned with being comfortable!

I have a fairly varied waredrobe (dress shirts/pants, sundresses, capri’s, leggings, plain tops, t-shirts, sweaters, runners, boots, wedges, flip flops etc etc) but my main go to is jeans and tank top or t-shirt.

@MiraJo: you dont, just make sure the colours match and you are fine (or if you are bold you can go from a bright coloured bra under a simple coloured speghetti strap shirt, like a blue shirts with yellow bra straps). Bra Straps are normal dont worry about them being shown. Just do not wear a t-backed shirt with normal straps, please wear a bra that also has a t-back on it.

I wear jeans, shorts, capris, or skirts paired with a nice top in the summer. In the fall/winter I wear jeans or leggings and a long sleeve shirt or sweater.

Usually dark washed jeans and a pretty top with some sort of visual interest. I don’t wear a lot of plain tshirts.

I’m a Stay-At-Home Mom and in the height of summer do sundresses and sandals. As it cools, I prefer jeans/boots/frilly camis/blazers or cardigans. Sometimes sweaters in the winter. I don’t have any t-shirts, but I do wear black yoga pants if I’m not going out at all that day with these lacy camis I picked up at the Loft a year or two ago.
