@abbyful: I was born in Kansas, went to college in FL, then returned! I’ve been floating around the KC area since end of 2005! I was in KCMO, but we moved to Mission for Fiance to get in-state tuition for KUMed. I LOVE Mission! It’s so quaint, and Target and Hy-Vee are so close. And I work in KC, so I can always run by Trader Joe’s after work, even if it’s not really on my way home. It’s worth it.
My preference would be Waldo/Brookside, but we have to stay in KS until he finishes his MPH. After that, Florida or California!
Not to threadjack, but I’ve been meaning to PM you about vendors that you would rec’d in KC. I will do that now!

Nothing beats a Publix sub before a Gators game. It might take them 30 mintues to make it, they might screw up 95% of the time, and it might be more expensive than anywhere else…but it’s a tradition.
I miss Publix so much. My fiance just doesn’t get it…

@Natinat6: I always get one right after I fly into Florida for vacations, no matter the time. I have to have one!

I love different stores for different things – I do most of my regular grocery shopping at Safeway because it’s like two minutes away. I shop a few times a year at Winco to load up on bulk stuff (spices, grains) and to snag some cheap produce. Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are like 15 minutes from home so I don’t shop at either often, but like to pick up novelty stuff (simmer sauces, frozen stuff) when I’m in that part of town.

I’ve been around a bunch of different stores due to different areas I’ve lived in: Harris Teeter, FarmFresh, Food Lion, Bloom, Bottom Dollar, Piggly Wiggly, Pic n Pay, Stop n Shop, Walmart super center, Target super center, Publix, Giant.
Out of all of those I like Harris Teeter, Bloom (they changed teh one by my parent’s house back to Food Lion and it went back to sucktastic) and Publix the most solely on the fact that I don’t have to sort through bad produce to get better stuff. They’re on the pricey side… so out of those Publix is better b/c they ALWAYS have BOGO sales and if you don’t pay full price it’s actually pretty cheap. I also have noticed that depending on the Target, you can also get really good stuff there. The Target by me is not a full super target with grocery (just a small grocery section) So I’m not a fan of it.. but the one by my parent’s house IS AMAZING. I don’t remember the prices though, I think they were reasonable. I’ve also been meaning to swing by Wegmans.. I hear it’s amazing, I just haven’t had the chance to go there (its on the other side of my hometown through traffic!)

@Natinat6: Sounds like me and my WaWa subs… When I was home for the wedding I probably stopped there a handful of times just for a sub… and when Darling Husband and I left town we made a pitstop there for gas and subs(even though it was 9am)

We do Kroger too. I know there are some different names for Kroger around the country but I can’t remember what they are right now.

They just opened up a Mariano’s by me (in IL). Apparently it’s a Roundy’s chain. I only know of Roundy’s because of visiting WI so much. But holy crap do I love the store.
Sushi bar, fresh caramel apples, gelato bar, hot foods that look amazing, the butcher will cook up any meat you buy to your liking at no extra charge… Seriously. I could LIVE there.

My favorite is Meijer but since we do not live very close to one right now I’ve been going to VG’s which is a Spartan Store. I’m pretty sure Spartan Stores are another Michigan based company.
@vorpalette: There are Kroger in Michigan. I don’t know of any on the west side of the lower peninsula but they are all over on the SE side. My Darling Husband also shopped there once in a while when he lived in lansing.

Whole Foods. I’m an addict…

My favorite is Fresh & Easy, but we usually go to Superior and Smart & Final for the cheap prices. 🙂

wegman’s is pretty much the best grocery store I have ever had the pleasure of shopping at! Unfortunately we recently moved to an area without one and we are literally depressed over the other grocery options- nothing compares!

@Kari 2012: Yep, they’re on the east side, and south of us (there’s one in Sturgis), but not on the west side. What I find hilarious is that, when you search for stores around me on their site, it tells you where the nearest two Fred Meyer Jewelers are.
