My favourite nail varnish brands are
OPI & Sally Hansen
Wet N Wild, Barry M & Max Factor
China Glaze! Something in the shapes of bottles and undoubtful quality got me.
Don’t like OPI – its colors are not for me, and I always have troubles with application. And hate wide brushes.
The second place goes to Essie.
Favorites — Butter London, OPI (love the color selection), Revlon (doesn’t chip as much on me), and Sally Hanson complete manicure (my favorite brush for application.
I love Essie’s colors and I continue to buy them, but they chip after only a day or two for me 🙁 Still haven’t tried Zoya yet!
Hands down favorite is gel since it lasts so long!
ellagrace: I’m a total nail polish freak/fiend, too! Love, love, love it — and can’t stop buying it. *bad*
Oh! I forgot about Butter London and Zoya! I love both of them, too. Although I’ve never found a super great color selection with Zoya. I recently got their “Blu” polish, and thought it was really pretty. I didn’t leave it on long, because I realized I wasn’t in the mood for it on my nails once I got it all on there. But I’m looking forward to wearing it later.
lavender-reveries: I’m the same way with Essie. I love the colors and will buy them, but they chip off really quickly. (Except for a couple of colors that lasted well.)
Thanks again, everyone, for sharing your nail polish favorites and thoughts in here. I love learning about new brands. And, it’s so interesting to me to find that what works for each person can be vastly different. Like, how Essie chips off right away for me, but for other people, it wears the best. I have that same problem with most of the Sally Hansen polishes, too. They don’t seem to apply well for me, and they chip right away. Interesting stuff!
The majority of my nail polish collection is OPI and it has always worked well for me. I also really like Butter London and Formula X. I have two Deborah Lippmann polishes (one was free from Sephora with points) and they are amazing but I can’t justify the price to buy more of them!
Deborah Lippman and Chanel. So easy to apply and love the formula. Sally Hansen Complete Manicure System polishes also work amazingly well if I’m in a rush.
Nail polishes I want to love but the formula hates my nails for some reason: Essie, Julep (looks fine going on, but i’ve had trouble with staining when I remove it), Formula X, Zoya.
Bumping this thread because it’s going to be toenail polishing time soon (if you’re into that). I agree with MadameHibou: I really like Zoya; it goes on very smoothly. Not too thin and not too thick. I love Essie colors but they can be streaky.
I have very strong natural nails that can grow very long; I have to file them down periodically. In my line of work, acrylics, shellac and gel are frowned upon.
