I’m looking for a local (no chains) restaurant to have my reh. dinner at. We’ve got about 40 people (a good portion of the number is kids) to accomodate. The wedding is in Lakewood and our Out of Town people will be staying in Golden. So some place close to Golden would be preferred.
Places that have been recommended already Casa Bonita (I’ve read really bad things about this place online….are they true?) and the Fort (out of my price range). Any other suggestions?

Casa Bonita is entertaining and beyond cheesy, but I definitely would not recommend it for a rehearsal dinner… the food is just terrible. People go for the tacky and amusing factor…
Rodizo by Union Station downtown is amazing, but about $30+ a person, so pricey!
White Fence Farm is in Lakewood and is huge and busy, but has yummy corn ball hush puppies things… it is a common family meeting place and is so large that your 40 people may take up one of the rooms so that would be nice to have some privacy.
Sorry I don’t know any places really in Golden… but definitely wanted to make sure you didn’t opt to go for Casa Bonita! Go to You Tube and watch the South Park episode about Casa Bonita and it is insanely accurate…

how about the morrison inn? the food is yummy (and the margaritas are to die!), and it is inexpensive. depending on the time of year, you might be able to sit on the rooftop deck. however, it is definitely not upscale, and while the food is very tasty, the memorable thing about this place is the margaritas. cheesy mexican delish!

I agree with corleycolorado. The morrison inn would be really fun.
Also Casa Bonita has the world worst food. Its noises and crowded and has cafeteria style food.

Table Mountain Inn, in Golden, has good food (and a fair amount of interesting western-type flavors, if that’s a bonus for your guests) and private dining rooms as well.
If you don’t want to do a full dinner, we had an out-of-town welcome coffee night at the Windy Saddle, on Washington in Golden. They did a dessert bar (cheesecake lolly pops!) and you-call-it barista coffee drinks for us for around $12/person. It was great! They have a kids’ room and toys in the back, too.

I agree the Table Mtn. Inn is a great place to do a dinner in Golden. My best friend choose this location for her rehearsal dinner, the food and the service were great. We have eaten there many times since. It is a south-western type of vibe both in atmosphere and in the menu. It is located on the main street of down town golden.
The Fort and the Briarwood are two of Golden’s best, but they are both pricy.
Casa Bonita is great for a kids b-day but I would have never thought to do a reception there. The food is honestly terrible but the atmosphere is great. My dad used to take me there, when I was a child, and would always complain about the food. I loved it because there is a waterfall, divers, a cave, old time photo, an arcade and as an adult I am pretty happy about the margarita bar! It’s fun but it is really noisy. You should check it out for sure but be aware it is all about the experience.
You might want to check out Heritage Square. There are a lot of things to do there, like Casa Bonita. It is close to or in Golden and there is more than one dining option available. This place is really fun too!
Good Luck! Feel free to contact me if you need more help, my mom lives in Golden so I spend a lot of time there. 😉
