xdanielle :  agreed! Also in the Midwest, we did get one gift of $300 from an aunt and uncle who had recently had surgery and couldn’t make it to the wedding or shower. We were shocked and while it was greatly appreciated, I never would’ve expected it. Moat cash gifts we got were $25-50 per family.

Usually we get a pricier item from the registry if it’s local or we are unable to attend – big fan of knife sets as those are usually thrown on as a want, but not something couple would normally purchase for themselves. They can run anywhere from $200-400. If travel is involved we spend about $75-100. Last wedding we traveled to we did a cheese board and a cheese cutlery set (about $80?), but spent about $800 in airfare for the both of us.

I buy off the registry. My SIL (she was a young bride) invited me over a few days after the wedding because she was so excited to show me what was given from the registry! It really made ne definitely want to stick with it.

A registry gift – with this great Cooking for Two cookbook if it’s a cooking/kitchen gift is my usual.

Or a check.

Or some combination of one of those things plus a donation to a charity the couple cares about if they’re special besties.

anonbee4321 :  Our go to wedding gift is a Forever Pillow. You can customize the colors to match their invite and there’s a pocket in the back for a card and a check. Brides LOVE seeing their new name. http://www.foreverpillows.com
