I struggle with this every year. I love buying people presents and I have a terrible time sticking to a budget. How do you do and and what’s your budget? Is it a lump sum this is it for all the presents I”m buying or is it an amount per person?

ABout…. $25 for kids, $50 for siblings, $100 for parents.

I don’t have may people to buy for, my brother and his girlfriend, my parents, my SO, maybe small things for my assistant and my best friend. I end up spending about $100/person for each of those people (other than assistant and friend). If there were kids in the family I would cut back my adult budget to buy things for the kids. I also have to watch myself shopping for myself and random extras during the holiday season.

I have a small family so I’m usually just buying for my Darling Husband, our 2 kids and my parents. Darling Husband and kids are $150/each and my parents are $100/each.

pinkshoes: this is probably about what mine breaks out to, or at least what I try and make it work out to!

Trying to keep it as low as possible. I just founf this FB page “The Gift Engine” which compiles all the sales and makes some good gift suggestions. Thought I would share, I’ve purchased a few Amazon items suggested here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Gift-Engine/476361999168511?ref=hl

We do approx 50 per child and siblings and 100 for parents.
We have a Christmas fund (a box) where we stash cash throughout the year. Then we figure out what we have and assign accordingly. We spend what’s left between the two of us.

SisterJude: that’s a smart plan! I wish I had the discipline to stash cash all year. We emptied our change jar just before the wedding (almost $800…) but it’s nowhere near full again.

MsGinkgo: Holy cow $800!!! I roll our change pretty frequently…so we’ll get $20 bucks here and there and I always stash it. We actually have several different stashes (xmas in a box, cruise in a savings account, house in another savings, and an extra secret stash that I put little bits here and there for fun stuff–we had almost $100 and it’s all gone now haha!)

For our kids, we just do a lumpsome budget. So about $600 for all 4 kids. It has been more in previous years and less in previous years. We’ll have to see this year.
As for the other people I shop for, I try to stay under $25 each for my bil, his wife and their 2 kids. My il’s need nothing so we just buy what they might liike…. we spend about $20-$50 on them.

Depends on the persn, but anywhere from $20-$100+. We spend the most on close family though, and make sure to do at least 1 giving project each year.
ETA: I really didn’t add it up, I just shop as I go with money I have on hand. We buy for (between us 2) each other, 2 sets of parents, 2 sibling and one sibling’s SO, 4 young kids, 2 sets of grandparents, 2 aunts/uncles, and 4 close friends. I’m not sure I even want to know how much I spent, but it’s all paid for in full, so I’m feeling fine about it.

We decided to only buy gifts for the little girls this year. I spent less than $15 on each little girl. We are doing stockings for the adults and everybody contributes to the pot. I’ve been spending about $5 a person for their stocking stuffers.
My husband and I set a $500 limit for each other.

I’m a grad student who is working part time and planning a wedding, so my budget is pretty low. I’m probably going to spend about $25 per family member (4 people) and $50 or so on my fiancé.
