I know I’m very much in the minority here, but I’m generally not a fan of traditional prongs.

I don’t like it if a ring looks imbalanced, i.e. accent stones are too large for center stone.

Hmm, my list of ‘likes’ are far longer…

I have to agree with @sentenced2life.  I have always thought quads looked like you were trying to look like you had a bigger stone than you could afford.  The number one thing I stressed to my SO when he was looking for rings was that I HATED halos and I HATED round stones and I really disliked (okay I HATED) yellow gold.   I ended  up with my dream ring, a 1.5ct emerald cut in a antique engraved design band with 10 tiny accents on the side.  I never in a million years dreamed I would get a ring this gorgeous!

@MoonlightRose:  I have a heart in my ring too! Although I’m not surprised many people dislike them, my ring is what a lot of people don’t like on this thread! … Yellow gold, channel set, heart diamond LOL

Now I’m curious to see your ring 😉

Sorry to Threadjack!

I have always always loved channel-set diamonds.

I have also always not at all like halos, pave, or anything else that looks like something more than it is from a distance.

I prefer round brilliant, probably because its what both of my grandmothers have, but can appreciate most other cuts.  Except marquis.  A 2+ carat marquis instantly reminds me of my ex-boyfriend’s mother’s upgraded wedding band.

I use to hate heart diamonds, but that’s because someone I know has this god awful engagement ring of two pear shaped diamonds and a square/pricess set into metal (not even bezel, just set into the metal) to make up a heart. I’ve seen some beautiful heart rings on here though.

I also don’t like marquis stones, but that’s because it reminds me of an old promise ring from a douche ex-boyfriend.

Cluster rings and quad settings I also dislike.

Despite disliking these all, I still admire some of them on the Bee, because they still make a pretty ring it’s just not so much my taste.

I can’t really think of any specific styles that I don’t like.
I suppose in general I prefer thicker bands (3mm+) over thin bands for engagement rings. But then again, it depends on who’s finger it’s on! For the most part I don’t care for curved wedding bands, but then I often see beautiful wedding sets on here with curved bands!
Whether I like something or not depends on the particular ring and the finger/person it’s on moreso than the style itself. Styles can be done in so many ways!

I don’t care for yellow gold bands, thick bands, quads, heart shaped, marquise, or 3 stone rings with the stones all the same size.  My band is pretty thin and I have a halo, so I know some people would dislike it lol, but I just don’t like thick bands.  Some get so thick they look almost like a mans ring or a HS class ring.  Also, I love simple halos, because they make the center stone look bigger and I love all the sparkle!!  I have decided to get a simple band to go with it, however.

I don’t like princess cut, quads, clusters, yellow gold, diamonds under .25, channel set or anything chunky. I am really REALLY picky about what I will wear.

I am really picky and dislike a lot of styles. my least favorite are round solitaires, oval diamonds, quad rings, thick bands, channel set anything, and radiant diamonds.

I dislike composite rings and three stone rings.

I typically dislike canary diamonds (looks like yellow snow to me), brown diamonds, double halos, heart cuts, and pear cuts.  Although I’ve seen some pear cuts on here that I really find beautiful. I also HATE thick bands on me because it makes my finger look even fatter — but that’s more preference on my self rather than a general preference.

@toomanyspiders:  I didn’t mean it to sound that way, by any means! I meant it to be more of a “I don’t associate non-diamonds with engagement”. Make sense? I think it largely has to do with no one here having gemstones as their center stone, but a lot of people wear birthstone rings on their ring finger. So say I see a girl with a ruby on her left ring finger, I’d think it’s a birthstone or decorative ring, not engagement.

I in no way wanted to discount the validity of them and to say they aren’t “real” engagement rings. I’m sorry it came off that way!

Edit: and by “here” I mean Iowa, not WB- obviously lots of women have gemstone rings

@wrkbrk:  Me too! Also when the ring is too small, giving some finger muffin-top

@medbride:  Ew, totally…

I have been shocked by how many of the things I thought I didn’t like in rings I have seen on here and really liked (or at least appreciated)!  That said, I still am not a #1 fan of the non-symmetrical cuts, like hearts and pears, mixed metals, yellow gold in general, and the quad things.  Also black diamonds, because while I love the idea, they always look like obsidion or granite or something to me, not sparkly like a diamond.  And I don’t think I could ever commit to one color, so colored stones are out for me as well.  But these are all very personal opinions, because like I said, so many people have rings with these aspects and they are gorgeous!

I just hate it when the whole ring is so bulky / thick that it looks like a man’s class ring.

I also dislike really tall settings.
