LoveMyBrit:  My Fiance is an amazing guitarist but he feels pressured too! I asked him if he would just record something, no one would even have to know it was him! but he said it was too costly, which is his way of avoiding it haha!!

christin5135:  i know right?! The perfect song ruined by association. But omg I just found the most perfect instrumental version of it. On YouTube search “a thousand years instrumental”. And I think it’s the firs result. By “the piano buys”. It’s simply a pianist and a cellist. The piano is sweet and romantic, then the cello kicks in all deep an haunting. Oh my gaaaaaawd.

Has anyone used a string duet? (violin and cello)…I can’t find anything that isn’t super traditional but also that isn’t super overplayed..

I want something unique but classic like the beatles or john mayer..but I can’t find a lot on traditional strings like that.

1234sophia:  i guess that’s how you know it’s “right” it’s so perfect. I love that it’s from twilight. I’m such a twilight nerd. Fi keeps telling me to do whatever I want, so I’m doing a few twilight inspired things

texaslemon:  Does it need to be a string duet? Because there are tons of string quartets online, for a lot of contemporary songs (thinking of Vitamin String Quartet, in particular).

texaslemon:  Aw, that would be so wonderful if he could record a song! But I do understand how they feel pressured (but um, hello, the entire wedding is pressure on us to make it look good, haha). I’m just hanging back and letting him decide on his own sweet time, no pressure… we’ll see!

christin5135:  my bridesmards/groomsmen walked in to Carolina on my Mind by James Taylor (live on acoustic guitar, no vocals) and I walked in to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri (live on acoustic guitar, no vocals)…loved every minute of it!

I’m still debating on which songs to use, so thank you for this thread!

It’s funny, I didn’t even think of playing A Thousand Years because I felt the original version is played out for a wedding, but I instantly got emotional 5 seconds into hearing The Piano Guys’ version and I was sold. I was thinking of using it for the entire processional, but getting the timing down for my entrance to be at the crescendo is tricky.

I think I may use it for just my entrance and use Today I Met The Boy I’m Gonna Marry by Darlene Love for the wedding party, but I don’t know if it’d be weird to go from an upbeat oldies song to a mellow instrumental.

Recessional song will be Wouldn’t It Be Nice by The Beach Boys.

LoveMyBrit:  yea, we hired a string duet for the ceremony/cocktail hour (that was all that was offered with the company we went with).

I am actually currently looking at Vitamin String Quartet for ideas..maybe the duet could play something anyway. But i feel like everything is too upbeat and poppy or too melancholy. I am determined though!

I am really starting to like Moonriver (andy williams), Your Song (elton john), and May it be (enya) on strings…i kinda feel weird about it being from LOTR but i have always liked that song from celtic women so yea.

I am also digging Blackbird by the beatles for the BMs/GMs/Groom. It holds a special place for me and my Fiance, but I feel like it’s TOO upbeat for me to walk into.

Steph77:  I am just curious what your father/daughter song is with a 50/60s themed wedding.  I am looking for an oldies song for my father/daughter dance

HersheysKisses:  not decided on that one yet to be honest but we have some contenders;

Waterloo Sunset – The Kinks

Love me Tender – Elvis

hope that helps x
