I work as an engineer at a large telecom corporation and I *hate* it. They use the term "engineer" so loosely that they have people with real engineering degrees, like me, doing mindless data entry all day. I’m trying very hard to find a programming job, but the economy is a nightmare….

wow, so many professionals on here, you’d never think you’ be so crafty

I’m a physician, a Neurologist, I love love love neuroanatomy which if 50% of what I do, figuring out the localization, I love the brain, there are days my job is rewarding like when someone comes back and they’re feeling better, I think wow, I did that? Or I advise, and I’m thinking wow, this is my vocation, I gte this.

There are other times I want to throw my pager in the nearest river when I  have a nice meal with friends. It’s a privilege and a burden. I love that I get to make a difference, but I don’t love that it takes a lot out of my freetime, it eats up my weekends when I want to relax or have fun. On the other hand if I weren’t a doc I couldn’t travel as much as I do. There are pros and cons

if I weren’t  a doc I would be an artist which is probably why I have so many DIY projects ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m a Wedding Specialist/Catering Sales Manager at a hotel.  I hate having a monetary goal over my head every month.  I’m not the "sales" type and I’m really burnt out from working all day & night and weekends.

I am looking for a new position but not sure what.  I wanted to be an Event/Floral Designer but i’m at a point right now where I just want a normal job I can go to and leave and not have to think about it.  By having a job like this, I can use my free time to doing things that really matter to me.

Wouldn’t it be nice to trade jobs with each other to see if they are the right fit?

I work for a limo company. I love my co-workers and would love my job if 85% of my clients weren’t spoiled rotten… I love working on wedding reservations though! There is nothing in the world better than helping make someone’s wedding wonderful.

I currently work in Human Resources for a manufacturing company, where we design and make trailers.  I focus primarily in benefits, where I help advise employees on their health care plans and 401K.  I also help with new hire orientation and do recruitment from time to time when there’s a need.  I also plan our holiday parties (which helps given the fact that I’m planning my own wedding).

My job isn’t so bad since I work Monday through Friday and have weekends off.  Compared to my previous job as a social worker, this job is 100 times less stressful.

I’m an actress and I LOVE it ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s hard work and you have to deal with a lot of rejection and competition, not to mention how little money most of us make, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I get to do the coolest things and meet the coolest people during "a day at the office."

I just graduated from law school (today, actually!).  I’m working part-time for an environmental government agency and studying for the bar exam (in July).  I hope to find a full-time environmental law job in the near future.

However, I don’t think I want to practice law forever.  i’d love to run a restaurant (I was a waitress for several years), work in the fashion industry (maybe as a stylist or creative director?), or be a flight attendant on this new airline that’s just for dogs!  I’ve always wanted to work in the publishing industry as an editor.  We’ll see what happens!

I love this thread! It’s so interesting to see what everyone in the hive does!

I’m a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist…or, Recreation Therapist. A much lesser-known therapy, but it’s like a combination of several therapies- but using fun activities! I make mediocre money, but I love working with my participants.

I coordinate community programming for individuals with special needs full-time. And I work part-time at a psychiatric hospital part-time providing therapy through recreation for mental-health patients. I absolutely love psych! I even met my Fiance when he worked at the psychiatric facility (no, he was not a patient!).

I love that I have a hand in making sure people get to have fun and live better through recreation. Especially people who are so often "written off" or their needs are ignored in the community!

I worked full time for 9 years at the Happiest Place on Earth then decided to quit to finish my undergradute work.  I’m majoring in Poli Sci and hope to go to law school one day.  Until then I’m a full time student and a full time Housefiance. I am also currently doing an intership with a non-profit legal agency that provides legal education to the underepresented community of Long Beach.  I love going to school and my internship.  My Fiance is a software engineer and he absolutely loves his job.
