What is your theme and how did you come up with it?
We are getting married in five months and we do not have a theme. Is it crazy that we don’t have a theme? At first I didn’t think we needed one but within the last two weeks I’ve been asked by five different people what our theme is. I stutter through…uh, ah, um…well, we don’t have one but our colors are turquoise and tangerine and we’re using lanterns throughout the ceremony and reception. We are from two different states and I had thought about doing something with that but I just couldn’t come up with anything. I’d love to be able to wrap our wedding into one word or phrase and call it a theme but I can’t think of anything theme-ish for it.
So please bees tell me your theme and how you came up with it. Maybe you can help me with one too. Ready…set…GO!

Our wedding day is the first day of Summer next year. So we are going with summer alcohol drinks, sun flowers (not overboard on them), summer ale beers…etc… nothing spectacular.

My theme is elegant woodland fairy tale with vintage touches. Not Disney fairy tale, but more like brothers Grimm. I love fairies and the woods so it kind of grew from there. My family lives on a gorgeous piece of property in the woods so it works out perfect. I can’t wait!

Our wedding is being held at a golf course but we are not incorporating anything golf related. The ceremony is outside and the reception will be in an air-conditioned tent. If it’s not too hot it will be open so that you can see the beautiful lush greenery that surrounds it. I was thinking rustic but our wedding is on August 30 so technically it’s still summer and when I think of rustic I think more of fall or spring. Also, I think our color scheme is a little too bright to be rustic. So there went that idea. I just don’t know how to give a name to it. It would make my life a little easier to have a theme especially with thinking of invitations, place cards, etc. I’d like everything to flow nicely. I thought I had it together but now I feel like I’m all over the place. Did anyone else feel like this or did you just know you wanted to go with a certain thing?

Our theme is romance with cupids, angels ice sculptures, and candelabra…

You could make your theme ” A State of Grace” or “A State of Matrimony” or “State of the Heart”. I vote for State of the Heart.
You could make drink coasters using maps outlining the states where you are from
you could use a map as the backing for your table numbers
ditto for using maps to make containers for anything you are tossing or for favors
you can get map shaped confetti
These are just a few ideas.
You don’t need to overuse the map paper- it’s just a way to incorporate the “state”.
It also gives you a jumping off point for invitations etc

I think themed weddings are a new thing. At least, I don’t remember going to one before the past couple years. It helps some people focus and tie everything together, but ain’t nothin’ wrong with “We’re in love & getting married” as the sole focus.
That said… mine is “Vaguely Literary With a Side of Geek-Chic and a Drizzel of Crafty DIYness” Alternate title: “Nerd Love: Reloaded”.

@smrlovingrl: We are doing a whimsical beach theme (seashells, starfish, sand) with some hidden tropical vibe. I really liked the colors aqua and coral together, and it seemed appropriate to go with the beach theme 🙂 Plus I grew up right by the Pacific NW beaches and our venue has a view of the town lighthouse/ferry/beach.

Okay, so our theme is styled after the 50’s and 60’s, high fashion “Mad Men” clothing style. We are also turning our stage into a theater stage, (adding red curtains and what not). Which in turn is gearing it more towards cinema and film making. (I’m an amatuer film maker.) So some aspects of the Pixar film UP are going to be included, which is a big part of our relationship history. Oh goodness, I know Hayoa Miyazaki will be thrown in somehow, and a bunch of our favorite films, even if they aren’t wedding appropriate. We are both huge photographers, so that’ll be incorporated as well. I think we’ll have our collection on display and available for use. We are huge gamers so our wedding cake is going to be video game consoles. Oh! And we were engaged at Oktoberfest which is a german beer festival so I’m sure that will be included as well.
I really don’t know. I’m just going to add a bunch of random stuff together and not care. 😀

@julies1949: I really like this idea! Do you think this would work with a turquoise and tangerine colored wedding?

Our theme is Modern Vintage (with a little shabby chic). I actually saw the words “Modern Vintage” in a bridal mag. and I decided to look it up and ended up finding some pictures and then went from there.
This will be what our tables will be similar to.

@smrlovingrl: Absolutely! I would try to find maps that incorporate your colors. That should be fairly easy as lakes and oceans are always blue, and orange is used for highways or state llines or somoething.

When I planned my first wedding (2007), no one really had a theme, just colours. It’s crazy how things change!

My theme is peacock feathers! The peacock is a beautiful animal, but I am just using the feathers. I just love the vibrant colors of the peacock eye. My bridal party will be in midnight blue dresses and I might be doing peacock fans. Just an example of what I am doing!
