$25,000 for a wedding is a lot of money (if you have it, flaunt it) with that money i can give a down payment on a house lol

    @lolita ++++++++++++++++1

I cannot IMAGINE spending that kind of money on a wedding… Even if I had it! I mean unless I was in a really wealthy career and stuff maybe… We also have a small guest list because our family isn’t huge and we don’t plan on inviting every aquaintance we talk too at work.

But if I just happen to have that kind of money saved… there is no way I would spend that much on a wedding… I’d use it for a car or student loans, or a down payment on a house. EEK

Here in Upstate NY, anything wedding related is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. My budget for a evening, plated dinner with 120 guests is $23,000. It makes me want to barf. We already have a house, car, et al. at least.

@OhsoLovely:  Just a suggestion, you should add a $5,000 and less option because they are many brides on here working with that budget, which is pretty different from $10,000. ๐Ÿ™‚

Our wedding budget is $9,200 for 100 guests.

If I include engagement ring, both wedding bands and our 6 day cruise for the honeymoon, it would total to $17,500. So it is still pretty far under the national average, which makes me really happy ๐Ÿ™‚

We could realistically afford up to $30k for everything, but we have decided to save the remaining $12.5k in our savings account and put it towards an eventual downpayment on a home.

I am always a proponement of have the wedding you can afford, but I personally would not spend anymore than we are spending (which is still quite a bit).

@lealorali:  I agree with the cost of things here.  We went with having our wedding on a  Sunday which really saved on costs.

We were able to do ceremony, cocktail hour, reception (inlcuding open bar all night) for 110 for only $11,000 (including tax, gratuity, etc.)

I can’t believe that we are shelling out that much for the wedding and that was for a sunday wedding (anything on Saturdays was literally twice the cost).

P.S.  I’m curious.  If you don’t mind me asking, where are you having your wedding?  We are having ours at the Franklin Plaza in Troy.

We spent a little over the equivalent of $40k (excluding the honeymoon). We both have big families and don’t regret what we spent.

Spend what works for you but don’t denigrate those who spend differently.

@subola:  Oh nice!! That place is so nice!! We’re at the Dance Museum! Oh AND we’re “saving money” by having it on a Friday. [it didn’t save me as much as I thought it would.]

Mine isn’t even $1000. My dress is cheap, I want to elope/have <10 guests, and go out on the town for a bit before our honeymoon.

@SpecialSundae:  +1 to your last statement!

I am choosing not to share the amount of my wedding, but my parents (who are not wealthy by any means) wanted to pay for the bulk of my wedding by their own choice, I even tried to fight them on it.  But its what they want to do, my family never does anything big..We went for many years struggling, I’ve never even had a birthday party, so this is something special they wanted to do for me.  I don’t have money for a wedding, or a downpayment on a house, etc.  THEY do. I will be contributing some but the majority is on them.  Besides its not like they would just hand me over money for a house instead of a wedding anyway.

I’m in Toronto it’s really expensive here too! My budget is $25,000. I’m getting a lot of help from my parents, and doing a lot of DIY’s. I already have a house and cars etc. But I still gasp at the cost!
