I’ve been reading these boards for months and finally had the courage to sign up today. I got engaged 2 weeks ago and so glad to finally get a ring : ) we’ve been dating for 2 years.
Good news apart, I’m now feeling the pressure to have a beautiful wedding. It’s hard finding what I want and deciding on what I should have fo rmy wedding, from theme to wedding vendors, but theme will be a good start. What wedding theme should I have? (I wish I could have more than 1! too many ideas)
What theme are you having and what’s your wedding color? And if you had ti choose 2, what will be your 2nd?

Congrats! What hobbies, loves, special times do you and Fiance share? That is the best start to a theme. It is a day to celebrate the two of you. Same with color. What is the best of both of you?

Our theme is A Midsummer Night’s Dream and our main colors are dusty pink and gold with hints of green and dark raspberry…

Congratulations and welcome to the Bee!
What are your favourite colours and your FI? Some people like to go with colours associated with the time of year they are getting married too.
I always knew I wanted gold (love gold) and so that was one colour, I then showed my Fiance loads of google images of gold and another colour (e.g. gold and navy, gold and blush, gold and coral etc etc) He really liked emerald green (and I do too!) so we went with emerald green and gold!
If I had to choose another colour I would probably choose red and gold, however Fiance wasn’t so keen.

Congratulations! I really like peonies so we started with that so have ended up in the blush and Ivory kind of area for colours. I’m not getting too worried about it though. Just go with what appeals to you. Do you have a favourite flower? does your Fiance have an idea of what colour suit a look that he’d like? that could be your starting point.

My overall theme is very playful, fun, almost a bit childish with ALOT of crafty diy decorations. Our colour scheme is pastel rainbow with gold accents. I’ve got a big poofy fun dress and we plan on getting an icecream truck (my dream would be to have miniature ponies or a bouncy house at cocktail hour but maybe that’s ridiculous haha)…the theme is pretty much our personalities.
Instead of people throwing confetti/rice at us after our ceremony we’ve hand made a ba-jillion wool pom-poms. We’ve made 300 gold paper cranes to hang at the reception. I’m going to speak to my college’s yarn bombing club to see if they’ll yarn bomb a tree or two at our ceremony…that would be amazing!

We’re having a Paisley theme and our colors are purple, white, and silver.
The colors are based off my ring which is a three stone amethyst center stone and two cz side stones on a silver band.
The Paisley is playing homage to my Indian heritage.

We are getting married on a boat on Labor Day weekend and having a nautical theme. Colors are navy, white and touches of green.

Thanks you all so much for the congrats and all the lovely ideas! @theatrejulia @UK-bee h2b doesn’t mind what color I choose, he loves all colors but like most guys he loves blue. I love blue too but looking at all your pretty ideas I’m thinking blush and gold or mind and white. It’s just a rough guess, I’d love to get as many ideas as possible and then begin to build a mood board or something.
I’m not embarassed to admit that it’s very exciting to put this together 🙂 I haven’t actually started dress shopping yet, but wil start next week (although already browsing the internet and magazines).

Our wedding theme is sort of “I love you to the moon and back” with geeky touches here and there. It suits us because we both love the night sky, and we actually first met at a bonfire and then walked down to the beach singing songs together under the light of the moon. The colors are dark blues, pale yellow, and gold. I want a romantic, glowing kind of look to it, so on Navy table cloths we are having a soft yellow paper lantern, so it is like every table has its own personal, softly glowing moon.
We are adding bits of geekiness by using a Legend of Zelda Medley and Neville’s Waltz from the 4th Harry Potter as music in the ceremony, and for table numbers I am collecting love quotes from some of our favorite movies, books, and TV shows and framing those in gold.

Congrats on your engagement and welcome to the Bee! 🙂 First off, have you picked a date yet? What time of year you choose will really help you to narrow down theme, colours, etc… And pick stuff based on you and your FI’s own personal styles and tastes.
My Fiance and I are getting married on May 28th of this year and I chose a “Romantic Elegance” theme. Since it was going to be spring, I wanted it to be soft and romantic with lots of flowers and candles. I really wanted it to be beautiful and to set a romantic and magical mood right when people walked into our ceremony and reception space. Our venue has a very old world french chateau feel to it and it has a lot of creams and whites in their decor. So we chose ivory, white, small accents of pink, and silver for a metalic. For the reception, I chose a beautiful sparkly ivory table linen for all of the tables, and for the centerpieces it’ll be crystal candelabras. Half of them will have white hydrangeas with a mix of white and pink roses on the candelabras and the other half won’t have any flowers on them at all. And there will be tealights and rose petals sprinkled on the tables. We’re not doing a head table or anything like that either. My Fiance and I are just going to be sitting at a table with our parents. And we’ll both be sitting in big white king and queen chairs. It’ll still set focus on us, but not too much. And for our ceremony, we’re having a round white canopy at the back of the room and the aisle will have 4 pillars on each side lining the aisle. And on each pillar there will be 1 candelabra with the flowers on them and there will be 4 tealights around the base of each candelabra.
I picked our venue because it’s already so beautiful on its own, so we wouldn’t need to spend much on decor to make it really stand out. I’m excited to see everything pulled together. I think it’s going to look beautiful! Good luck and have fun in your planning! Figuring out the theme and picking your decor is the most fun part I think!

@vblanch I so love the idea of “I love you to the moon and back” theme. I’m trying to hold on to something meaningful in both our lives and use that as a theme as well. But there are so many meaningful things it’s hard to decide! Oh dear, I’m beginning to think the greatest stress in wedding planning is actually making the decisions that it would be doing the shopping. Am I the only one who gets greedier every time I see something pretty? I seem to want everything at the wedding. I’ll probably have to start working on a mood board in the next few days to bring things together.
@kmdunford Thank you for the welcome 🙂 We are thinking Spring 2017 or in June. We’re flexible on dates but these 2 periods are our favorites. If it turns out to be spring we may go for delicate colors, I’m just beginning to fall in love with blush and gold. For a summer wedding we may go for yellow/nudes or blush/ivory or who knows? I’ve changed my mind 10 times today already lol

bestyblue: Aww, thank you! Well, does your fiance have any ideas for what he wants, or do you have favorite colors you could incorporate and use that as a jumping point? A theme really helps streamline so that you don’t have too many things going on at once, but don’t be afraid to incorporate other aspects of your life and love story. Don’t constrict yourself too much in your theme.
I get you on wanting all the pretty things, but personally it worked well for me to start some Pinterest boards for specific aspects of the wedding and then streamline those boards down. I am amazed at how much I’ve been able to simplify using this strategy because once I decide on the elements for one aspect I don’t touch it again.
