Hi Bees…My wedding is coming up at the end of July. Does anyone know when/how to plant wheat grass for place card holders? I might be too late, but I really don’t have any idea! Do you grow it in a low flat container? Or, is it something that can be purchased at say a garden center? I would appreciate any info on this. Thanks!

I grow wheat grass for my cats. It’s best to grow it in a well draining pot. I would find a shallow container (what you want to use for the reception) fill it with some stones for drainage, then dirt, and plant the grass. It does best in direct sunlight and takes about 10-14 days to reach seven inches.

I have used wheatgrass for centerpieces several times. I just googled till I found a local grower. He supplies all the health food stores and juice joints around here.
Here’s some general info:
Here’s a supplier who delivers to your state. Looks like he doesn’t ship in trays. That means you can find and use whatever container you want.

If you do decide to grow your own , remember that for a base for escort cards you don’t need or want it 6 or 7″ tall. You want a shorter base for the cards to sit on, so it won’t take as long to grow to that height.
If you only need one tray, probably much easier to just buy it.
