@MsBrooklynA: the deposit for the photographer sounds pretty normal. Ours didn’t require 50%, but did require a deposit (it may help that he’s someone we know – although aren’t friends with). With a lot of our vendors, we are trying to pay as much as we can before teh wedding so we aren’t dealing with it that day. We have designated a member of our wedding party to be in charge of the envelopes that have the payment for the vendors (they have their names on the outside). She also will get an envelope w/ some additional cash in to distribute among the vendors as she sees fit

Most vendors I’ve spoken with, the balance is due 2 weeks up to the day before the wedding, and deposits ranges 10-50%. I’ve never heard of vendors getting paid after the wedding.

The dress: 50% when I ordered it and the rest when it comes in. Alteration I believe are also half up front and the rest when they’re completed.
The DJ: About half, I believe the remainder is due a few weeks before.
The florist: Family friend is doing them.. I have no clue what he wants, I’m just letting my mom deal.
The Invitations: I bought mine at HomeSense (HomeGoods) today for $12/30. I was going to order them from vistaprint but this was cheaper. I realized that as much as I love stationary and I would love letterpress it was not worth it in the end.
The only thing that we owe the day of the wedding is extra alcohol costs & the hotel. The restaurant will keep a credit card on tab for alcohol in case it goes over what we’ve already paid, if it doesn’t, they refund us.
