Every wedding website checklist I read says 3-4mos before the wedding, but every etiquette post says 6-8 wks. My wedding is Feb 9th, so if I sent mine out the day after Christmas they should arrive about 6wks before the wedding. Is this too late? I don’t want to send them any earlier in Dec for fear they will get mixed in with Christmas cards, and before Dec I’m worried is too far from the wedding date and my guests will forget! Or at least forget to RSVP (they’re not the best at that to being with). But if i do send them at the 6wk mark, that only gives them about 2-3wks to respond. Is that enough time?

You could consider a save-the-date option in early November, then wait a bit longer to send out the actual invitations.
Our wedding is on a holiday weekend (Labor Day), so we got the save-the-dates out in early May (meant to do it in April, but we are terrible procrastinators) and only just got the invitations mailed today for a September 1 wedding.

I think it depends on if you will have any out of town guests or those who need to make extra arrangements to come. Almost half of our guest list were people out of state or country and so we sent ours out really early (6 months) because we knew most of them would respond right away that they would not be able to make it. But if you know most people will be able to because they live close to the wedding then just after christmas should be fine.
How many people were you hoping to invite? What’s the percentage of our of town folks?

@coopstah: I agree about the save the dates.

I think the day after Christmas is fine, but if you have a lot of OOT guests, maybe 2 weeks earlier wouldn’t be a bad idea since mail take a bit longer at that time of year.

Thanks! I think I will go with the save the dates. I might even send them out in Sept or Oct to get my wedding website info out there for hotel bookings and such. We’re inviting 130 people. I would estimate 70-80% are out of town, but only about 15% out of state. I’m guessing the final guest count to be around 90. And I’m expecting to have to call 90% after the RSVP by date, so I want to give myself a week or two.

I’m getting married Feb 1st and I’m sending save the dates next week. I’m sending these because we are doing a Friday wedding so I want everyone to get alot of notice this way I can send the invites at the 8-10 week mark.

More than half of our guest list will have to fly if they plan to attend our wedding, so we sent our Save the Dates in May. We only have two airlines in Canada, and I wanted to give people lots of notice so that they could plan vacations and watch for seat sales.
I’m not sure when we’ll send out our actual invitations!

Mailing invites out November 16th for our February 17th wedding. RSVP will be due January 18th. Wanted to get the invitations out before Thanksgiving and the December holidays. All of my FI’s family lives in California and the wedding is in Maryland. Better to get invitations out early. We mailed out our save the dates two weeks ago.. I think, give or take. haha.

I already sent mine about a month ago….only reason is because we live in Alaska and wedding is in Florida. We want to give our guests enough time to plan ahead 🙂 We had sent our STD’s around May.

2/16/2013 wedding…sent out my save-the-dates August 1st, and was tentatively planning on sending the real invitations December-ish. I’m a little worried about getting caught up in the Christmas mailing rush, and I’m also paranoid about RSVP’s, since I’ll need to give a headcount to the caterer by 2/1/2013, and I have a bad feeling I’ll be tracking down some RSVP’s…UGH!
