I hear it should be two months ahead of time however I am doing mine a lot sooner than that. I have so many people coming from out of state that I want to be sure they have enough time to prepare. My wedding is May 4th and I will send them out beginning of January. I feel that gives them enough time to prepare and if the RSVP does get lost by mistake I am allowing people to RSVP at my wedding website.

I’m sending them out 7 months before the wedding. Just because its A Destination Wedding wedding, people will need to book their hotel and have the entire weekend free.

  • Sending STD in Feburary, to spread the news and to prepare its a Destination Wedding.

  • 2 months later, in April, formal invitations. With a 3-4 weeks rsvp deadline.

By the time I get all my rsvp and gueslist set, I’ll have 5 months left to start booking cake, wedding favors, catering and gives me room if I need any last minute changes or add people to pay for extra guest. Besides, I’ll be traveling the farthest. Our locatIn is 3 hours away from friends and family and we’ll be 10 hours. I’ll be doing everything myself too, since I’ll be living 5 hours away from everyone. So I want to give myself some breating room. lol

My RSVP date is Feb 16th for a March 24th wedding, so I was planning to send out the invitations by Saturday, January 12th, which by the time they get there, gives a little more than a month for guests to send them back and I have plenty of room after the RSVP date to track people down for their answers.

Just a couple tips: I numbered the back of my RSVP cards, which correspond to a number on my guest list, because I’ve heard of many instances where people don’t write their names.  I don’t want to be guessing like that so close to the big day!

We sent ours 11/26 with our RSVP date of 1/5. We are having a Destination Wedding on 3.2.13.

Yes, rehearsal dinner invites are usually 4-6 weeks out, I believe. Since we are having a Destination Wedding we sent our welcome reception with our wedding invites.
