I’m antibiotics and BC.
Fiance doesn’t want to have sex with a condom so we are waiting.
Dr said the end of my pack we can (as long as the pills are over)
And when I told her I’m the patch and asked if she meant the end of the cycle or the patch (which I change every week) and she said patch.

that doesn’t seem right…I would call and clarify

I don’t know the answer to your question, but you could always call your pharmacist and ask, they’d probably be able to answer better/quicker than your doctor for your specific brand, etc..

I usually wait at least 7 days after the antibiotics are over with for the BC to be effective. Has worked for me so far.

I would definitely look at the insert from the pharmacy and/or call and talk to the pharmacist. There are only some antibiotics that decrease the effectiveness of hormonal birth control.

I would double check. Or just tell Fiance to suck it up and use a condom a couple of times

I thought it was 30 days….hmmm….

I spoke to my dermatologist recently because she has me on antibiotics and I am on the pill and I told her I was worried about it killing the effectiveness of the pill…she said that it hasn’t been proven to kill the effectiveness of BC. She said there was only 1 antibiotic that does (something I had never heard of). I have also been told by another doctor at some point in my life that if only lowers the effectiveness by 3%.

I always thought you were supposed to wait 7 days after the end of the antibiotics for any potential decrease in effectiveness to have normalized.

Well you should be done the antibiotics for sure, and then I believe you have to wait about a week (at least) until you can have unprotected sex again.

@Mrs.SplatterPaint: My doctor told me the same exact thing. And that they pretty much never even prescribe that medicine anymore so people don’t have to worry about it anymore.
