We moved him from cradle to crib at about 4 months and that was for my benefit really.  It all is a personal decision if you want to do crib first or not.

My son is almost 5 months and still in either the Rock N Play or cradle. He’s taken maybe 1 nap in his crib. His crib is in his room, we are keeping him in our room until at least 6 months of age (American Academy of Pediatrics says having baby in the parents’ room for the first 6 months lowers risk of SIDS.)

I had my son nap in his crib in his room at 7 weeks or so, while at night he slept in my room, in the pack n play. That way, when I transitioned him in his room at night at 6 months, he was already comfortable there. In fact, he slept better there than in my room.

Both of my children slept in the crib from their first night home from the hospital. I felt like the bassinet was superfluous when they were going to have to move to a crib eventually.

My daughter slept in her bassinet or the pack n play, both in our bedroom, until about 8 months. We couldn’t see spending the money on the crib we wanted until around that time, and the bassinet was a gift so we figured we might as well use it for as long as possible. Plus I was worried about having her in the other room because I was a paranoid first time mommy.

So no, the crib isn’t necessary. My daughter didn’t even like the pack n play until around 5 – 6 months, I think she would have hated a crib at first. It’s nice to transition. 🙂

I moved her just on 4 months, she was getting a bit big for it and started sleeping with her head right against the side which freaked me out. I made her go cold turkey on the bassinet which i now regret, we both had 2 sleepless nights when she was first in the crib which i figured out the crib felt too big for her. I fixed that issue and now she sleeps through the night. If I had done any thing differently then I wouldve slowly transitioned her instead.

My baby is 2 weeks old and we have been having him take naps in his room in his crib during the day so he is used to both his bassinet and the crib.  I think htere is no right or wrong answer – its all personal preference Sealed
