I stil wear backpacks. I have a work laptop I take every where and it’s comfortable than a laptop bag. I do take a large purse instead most days but I do take my backpack. I use a floral hello kitty one right now! I’m 28

I’m a uni student so it’s totally acceptable for me to wear a backpack. When I’m at work, I still carry a backpack though. It’s big, ugly and unattractive but I have no shame (I’m going to be a teacher though so that might be why). When not at work I just have a cloth handbag that holds most things fairly well.

I got a special edition Dakine a few years ago, which I use whenever I have to haul around more stuff than I am willing to carry on one shoulder. It is black with a subtle jaquard pattern, nothing too childish. Most “grown-up” backpacks seem to be either small and not back friendly, or laptop backpacks – which are not necessarily very stylish but often more backfriendly. I wanted something light, with padding on the back and lots of compartments, hence the Dakine. Kraken is a popular brand in Northern Europe and Northern Germany. From what I have gathered it is mostly used by mums in their 30s – I personally don’t like the typical Kraken but maybe they know something I don’t.

At the moment, I have a very big wallet that fits a lot of stuff but before I got that I used something like this:

I don’t take my backpack with me when I go and get lunch/grab a coffee/etc. That fits my money and phone, which is all I need – the rest can stay behind in the office or car. Maybe that is an option for you?

sevinsky2b:  I work in engineering, and there are plenty of guys (and gals) that pack their backpack every morning as if they were heading to university and show up to work with all their necessary books, notebooks, packed lunch, etc.  I just carry a tote into work and have a separate tote of workout clothes that i leave in my car, and I swap out the totes depending on whether I’m heading into work or heading into the gym, but I must say I’m quite envious of ther backpacks since my totes can get heavy and then end up hurting my shoulder and/or back.

Vera has come out with some supe cute backpacks (http://www.verabradley.com/category/bags/backpacks.uts), and I actually own two of them.  Why am I not using them for work instead of my totes? Couldn’t possibly tell you.  Guess I’ll be digging those backpacks out of my closet and switching all my stuff over to them tonight…. haha

I still wear a small-ish leather backpack when I’m going for a more casual look or spending the day traveling around the city. I think they are totally fun and cute!
