OK, the reality of getting married and having a wedding hit yesterday for me. We went to look at our ceremony and reception venue and have a soft hold on our date – March 9, 2013! We have three weeks to decide for sure and put together the security money.
It’s not like we haven’t planned, decided, or bought anything for our wedding up until yesterday. We had our engagment/STD pictures taken on Monday, have someone designing our Save-The-Date Cards and wedding invitations, have the guest list complete, my uncle’s wife has agreed to officiate, we have DIY supplies, I chose my BMs (FI has yet to ask two of his guys to be GM), I have my dress, chose Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, have colors and a theme, spoke with our DJ, chose our food, began calling for DOCs, chose our wedding bands, etc.
And it was yesterday that did it. Probably because this is the most money we will have spent thus far in one chunk.
So, at one point did it become real for you?

I’m 2 weeks out, so it is becoming more real for me now that I physically see it on my calendar and have nothing but wedding appointments for the next week. Up until now I couldnt fathom or picture it actually being here/happening!
@BetterSherm: sounds like you have a lot done 🙂 it will be easy-peesy from here!

I think it hit me when my save the dates when out, I was like “OMG this is it! There’s no turning back now”.

When I picked out the music for the processional. It hit me when I could picture myself walking down the aisle to the song. When I met with the organist and heard him play it, I got chills.

My Fiance said it became real for him when he first saw the Save the Dates printed and ready to send. For me…it still doesn’t feel real! I picked the dress, I have all the vendors in place, all the flowers and linens picked out, etc. I am 5 months away and I still haven’t had that, “holy sh1t, I’m getting married” feeling. I kinda think it’s going to hit me the day of and I’ll end up needing a valium!

We’re three weeks out. I picked up my dress, and it still hasn’t hit me. Maybe on wedding day? Haha.

@Future Army Wife: Same here. Two weeks out and it still hasn’t hit me. Probably won’t until I get that veil in my hair!!

I go back and forth. Sometimes I have these moments where I’m like OMG this is so real. The two that hit me the most where when they placed the veil on me for the first time with my dress and when I picked up our invitations. I have other random moments too… I was driving the other day and it hit me.. I’m getting married in 2.5 months. Other times though, when I’m going through the motions of planning, it seems like it’s all pretend. Awful I know haha.

The first time I called a vendor, it felt real. Like, wow, I’m actually planning my wedding. Aaaand I still haven’t actually planned anything, and are date is not official. But it still feels real. I’m getting married!!!!!

It REALLY hit me at 4 months out. We booked the hotels for our honeymoon and I just imagined not just traveling with Fiance but traveling with My Husband. Ahhh =] We did almost all of the grunt work (booking vendors, buying things) the first 1-2 months of the engagement, so there was a big gap of “enjoying the engagement by not having I plan anything” that was wonderful but made the wedding seem a long way off.
