sunflower22 :  I think it was around 9 months in advance! We had a string duo. If this makes a difference it was a Sunday wedding but they had to travel (around 2-3 hours to the venue).

We booked our ceremony musicians when we booked our church ceremony.

As a musician…sooner rather than later.  1 month or less is not NEARLY enough time for them to acquire any requested music you have, practice, and get everything in order.  2 months is still a stretch.  I would say 3 or more months is a pretty safe bet.  If you are getting married in a popular wedding season you will have to book out a lot longer than 3 months.  Professional groups will easily book out a year in advance.

We booked ours as one of the first things. Wee booked our venue in December 2016, and or musicians in (I think) February 2017 for September 2018. The quartet we booked had other enquiries for our date, but as we got the deposit in first we got them.
