My Hubby was the musician. He wrote all of our songs and recorded them. We got a DJ to play everything (the recordings and our requested songs) during the ceremony and the reception….but we had to book him like 6 months in advance.

My musician for the ceremony will actually be the music director for our church. When we began the manditory pre-marital counseling with our Deacon, he passed along her information. I think that was about a couple of months ago so we booked a total of 6 months before our wedding date. In my case, I don’t think there was too many worries bc our church can only do one wedding at a time. A year far out may be too far in advance bc that’s a long time for things to happen, i.e, musician moving, budget changes, etc.

We wanted a musician, but thought it was out of our budget. Just last Sunday we went out and happened to see buisness cards for a wedding guitar player, so we booked him about 1.5 months before the wedding. ($280 total for rehersal dinner, ceremony, and a small charge for him to play songs he does not yet have in his repertiore)

I would prefer to find someone early on, from Craigslist, or by putting an ad at a local college that has a music program. Our guitarist went to school for music and was classically trained.

I think the earlier the better. These guys book up fast. You don’t want to find someone you love for the wedding and not be able to get them because they have another wedding that day. I’m getting married May 2013 and signing the contract for our musician this weekend.

We booked ours about 6 months in advance. I would have booked it sooner if we were having a longer engagement.

We booked a string quartet for the ceremony/cocktail hour a bit more than 6 months out.  We did negotiate a small discount for booking in advance because I noticed that other string musicians were offering 10% off for contracts signed 6 months in advance.

We set our wedding date based on when our musicians were available!

We just booked about three months ago, so about six months out. We’re using a DJ company where your choice of DJ is ranked by when you sign up (so if there are 6 weddings on your date, and you were the third to sign up, you get third choice of DJ) so I think it’s good to sign up a bit early!
