I’ve heard interesting stories from people about when they got their dresses. I actually got mine 3 days after getting engaged, I went to a small store with mostly grad dresses to try them on and see what I liked but ended up falling in love with the first one I picked! The great part is that because its pretty much a grad dress that comes in white it was only $400. I also know people who have gotten their dresses before they were engaged, and one woman who got hers after her second date with the man who is now her husband! When did you get yours?

We got engaged last August and I purchased my dress this January. I wanted to loose a little weight before dress shopping and wait for my sister, who lives across the country, to come into town. Good thing I didn’t wait much longer because my dress just came in from the designer a couple days ago and my wedding is in September! I have my first fitting appointment for alterations next Wednesday and am super excited to try my dress on again finally!

I wanted to enjoy being engaged before buying a dress; it was very surreal. I bought my dress within a month of being engaged. However, I was guilty of slipping my bridesmaid’s ring on my ring finger to go dress shopping with my Maid/Matron of Honor and much later, with my cousin. It gave me a “Yikes, I really need to save up for a dress” wake-up call. So, I started saving over the span of two years, but only ended up spending 37% of my maximum dress budget. (Max budget was $2k, but realistically would like to stay less than 1k. My dress ended up being 749 + 5% GST. Alterations would top it to around $800-ish)
I’m lucky we decided on an outdoor wedding ceremony like I’d envisioned — though Mr. Bug had once told me on MSN messenger (when we first met) that he loves outdoor weddings; he was watching Runaway Bride while chatting with me on his computer. (This was over 6 years ago) Had we picked a more formal church setting, I’d be scrambling for another dress. Nope, just one dress — no regrets. All I have got left for dresses is getting a cheongsam custom-made and my FGs’ dresses made.

4 months after getting engaged

We got engaged in February. I chose my dress in March, but I didn’t actually purchase it until December, eight months before the wedding.

@Tigerlilybride: This needs a funny poll!
I just bought mine last month, so 6 months before the wedding (it was off the rack) and more than a year after getting engaged.
Actually, I haven’t paid it off completely yet, so it’s technically not “bought” yet.

You’re right it does! I’ll try to be creative enough to make one!

We got engaged in October, and I went shopping in January and bought the same day. I bought off the rack so I took it home with me. I went 8 months before the wedding in case I needed to order a dress, but luckly I didn’t.

I got my dress 4 months after being engaged, and 6 months before our wedding

Got engaged in May and bought the dress in early December. I’m one of the few people who really dreaded dress shopping, so I put it off as long as I could. I was actually getting afraid I wouldn’t get it ordered in time! But I found the perfect dress at a sample sale, so I guess it all worked out.

I started shopping right after getting engaged, but it took about a month or two of searching to actually find it. I bought it about 8 months out from the wedding date, thinking I’d need to order it, but as it turned out I simply bought the sample!

@Tigerlilybride: I got in about a month, but I didn’t vote because the reason why I got the dress so early was not because I couldn’t wait but because I was told I should get it ASAP as our engagement is only 7months. It took two visits for me to find the dress.

We got engaged Feb 2013 and I will start dress shopping 7 or 8 months later (October to November timeframe). We are getting married September 2013 so I’m sure to have enough time if I get hot on a dress come the autumn.

We got engaged in October and I picked my dress in May. I didn’t want to run out and pick a dress right away because my “vision” of what I wanted changed so much.

I got my dress right away after getting engaged. I ended up with dress regret and selling it and buying a new dress which I am in love with. I can’t wait to wear it.
