My OB/midwife practice doesn’t see patients until at least week 8, unless there is a problem or you have been high-risk previously. The reason being they do a dating scan first and want to wait until an embryo and heartbeat can be easily detected. I was seen at 9 weeks for my first pregnancy and 8 weeks for my second.

10+3 for my first and 10+5 for my second, both were with the OB.

allyfally:  I think going earlier is typical if there is a history of fertility issues or miscarriage. Otherwise, I think later is more typical.

I am going to a ob my first appointment is scheduled for 8 weeks. I was surprised by this when I called and said don’t you want me to come in sooner so you can verify I am pregnant and check my levels? They said no we don’t see anyone before 8 weeks. Its my first pregnancy so I had no idea the timing and having to wait that long really surprised me. I am really anxious and counting down the days until my first appointment. Hope this helped – goodluck!

I went at 6 weeks just for a pap and a urine preg test for them to confirm, then 8w2d for my first real appt with an ultrasound & bloodwork.

I’ve been seeing my GP since 6w5d, I’m currently 12w4d, and I don’t have my first appt with my OBGYN for another 5 weeks. I have been for one ultrasound at 7w2d, and have another in 3 days!

allyfally:  I saw a group of midwives at a birth center and I had my first appointment at 11.5 weeks, which was normal for their practice. They did bloodworm and we heard the heartbeat with the Doppler- it was awesome!

I had my 1st appointment at 5 weeks to confirm pregnancy, 2nd appointment at 7 weeks (ultrasound included ) to determine edd and next appointment at 12 weeks for NT scan. I saw the midwife after the 7 week ultrasound but was put off by her and decided to go with an OB (my practice has both).

I called my OB when I got my first BFP and they said to come in right away for blood test.  First ultrasound was at 6 weeks to check for heartbeat and make sure everything looked ok. This is my first pregnancy, no miscarriages or history or any other issues.  Every doctors office does it different but I was very happy with this.

I wanted to add my friend’s practice made her wait until she was 8-9 weeks before coming in. Each practice is different ( we live in same city and will have delivered at the same hospital come June).

My OB does 8 weeks from LMP. But I have long cycles, so I was 6w4days at my first appointment.
