I did IVF so I had two early scans at the fertility clinic before moving to an OB. My first one was at 6w4d and we heard the heartbeat. I had another at 9w1d and heard the heartbeat. I have my first OB appointment at 10w1d (this Monday) but I’m not sure if they will do another ultrasound. I hope they do!!!

My first scheduled ultrasound was at my eight week appointment with the doctor. I also had two ultrasounds during week six due to heavy bleeding, and two during week ten (one to check viability due to my history of bleeding/subchorionic hematoma and one during my CVS procedure). It’s amazing how fast things grow and change in there. The little bean looked like a blob during week six, but now at ten weeks you can see little arms and legs moving.

I’m in Europe, but I got my first (transvaginal) ultrasound at 10+2 weeks for dating purposes. I got ultrasound throughout my pregnancy because I was consider high risk.

At my practice, your first appointment is an intake appointment (go over things, blood work, etc), and then that day they schedule you for a dating ultrasound, so both times I went back the next day for that. Both pregnancies this was around 7 weeks.

I was experiencing some abdominal pain at 8 weeks so I had a transvaginal ultrasound to make sure it wasn’t ectopic (it wasn’t).  I had a doppler at my first OB appt just a few days later- my timing really sucked, lol!  I could see a lot actually- didn’t hear the heartbeat with the ultrasound but saw it, and then got to hear it a few days later.  Pretty amazing!

Mrs. Meowerson :  My first appointment is August 17. I’ll either be 6w2d or 10w4d. (I’m not sure if my last period was an actual period or implantation bleeding). I asked if they’d do a sonogram to date the pregnancy and one receptionist told me yes and another told me no o_O So I guess it’ll be a surprise lol! Wish me luck!

We just had our first doc appointment and U/S yesterday! I was 9w3d. I am glad we had to wait so long because it was amazing seeing what looked like an actual baby! 🙂 & LO was also wiggling around like crazy. It was breathtaking.

MrsSMFC :  Yeah, you’d be better off to get one, or at least get a NT scan.  That is what happened with my first, except I didn’t know it (my bleeding was pretty heavy so just assumed it was a period).  So my 12w NT scan turned into 15w6d.  I would think they would do one if you’re not sure when your last period was.  But on the positive side, I got to skip out on 3-4 weeks of pregnancy.

I am 10 weeks, and my doctor mandates the first ultrasound be between 11-13 weeks (depending on availability). My SIL got her first ultrasound at I believe nine weeks (lucky)! It’s been TORTURE waiting, but now that I’m almost there I don’t mind because at least when I see my baby for the first time it will LOOK at least somewhat humanoid :p

I started out at the RE,  so I had ultrasounds at 5, 6, 7 and 8 weeks with them. I had my first OB appointment at 9 weeks,  and had an ultrasound with her. I had an ultrasound at 12 weeks, and they attempted doppler at 16 weeks but he is in a weird spot, so I ended up with an ultrasound then too!

Usually a transvaginal dating ultrasound around 8-10 wks.  The only other standard scans are Nuchal Scan ~12-13 wks and 18-20 weeks for the anamoly scan.

Other scans are usually only if there are issues.

I had one done at 6 weeks because I was having some bleeding and they wanted to make sure everything was okay.  I couldn’t see much then, it was just a little blob with the fluttering of the heart.  If I hadn’t had the bleeding my first ultrasound would have been the NT scan which I just had done this week at 12 weeks.  I had my first appointment with the midwife at 9 weeks and she said it might be too early for the doppler so she said she would wait until my next appointment at 14 weeks.
