I’m just laying in bed listening to both my SO and his bulldog snore, and I thought I’d start a thread. Was there a moment or day when you really thought to yourself, “Yep, this guy wants to marry me.” ? Before he might have said it or admitted it out loud, did you have a time when you knew that he knew?
My SO and I took a lot of weekend or overnight trips in the beginning because we couldn’t afford long vacations. One time about a year into our relationship, a young hotel front desk clerk was checking us in. She handed our keys to us and said, “Here you go, Mr. And Mrs. [Ruthie]. Have a great day.” I sort of tilted my head and let out a very scooby-doo “Ruuuuuht?” type noise. He got a big cheesy grin and whispered, “I think I like the sound of that.” After I recovered from my pitter pattering heart, I thought to myself, “Yep. I got him now!”
We still laugh about that. I didn’t mind that he called me Mrs. all weekend as an inside joke, either.

@MissRuthie: We both knew right away that we wanted to marry each other. I know from talking about it we fell in love on our first date. He said the big L word about a week after our first date. He actually wanted to propose a month after we started dating, but I told him I wanted us to be financially sound. So, he responsibly proposed 2 years later.
So…I guess I knew he wanted to marry me a week or two after our first date.

@MissRuthie: I don’t know that there was a definitive moment, but I swear, the very first night we spent studying together I could just tell that he loved me already & would spend the rest of his life with me if I let him. I can’t explain how I knew that he would always take care of me & never let me down, but I did know it, & I was right.
My college sweetheart is my husband. I don’t believe in soulmates, but if I did, it would definitely be him. He is my match.
Btw, your story is so very sweet 🙂 I hope he proposes very soon!

Well I knew my SO wanted to marry me when we got back together after a year apart (7and half years on & off) and we was at his brother suprise birthday party setting up. He knew one of the workers at the venue and introduced me as “the wife”. I was like huh?? and he still introduces me like that to this day. I’ve asked him about it and he said legal or not that I’m more then just a Girlfriend to him. We are saving up right now and trying to get stable before he actually proposes.
@MissRuthie: Hope it’s not long before your a Mrs. your story is to cute.

@MissRuthie: 3 months into our relationship we saw a baby on tv, and he said: “that’s what ours will look like.” But I really did not take it seriously. When I decided to let go of a much better law school, and attend the local one, that was the day “I knew.” I do not think I would have made the decision if I did not think he was going to marry me one day. Surely, within a month of my decision he proposed. We have now been married over 4 years.

Within a few weeks of being “official” one night we were drinking and Fiance (then my Boyfriend or Best Friend, obviously) looked at me and said “one day I’m gonna marry you and we’ll have the prettiest babies”. ans almost seven years later, we’re doing just that!

When he cried because he though I was going to leave him (its a tmi story sooooo let’s just leave the reason behind his thinking out ;), k). I have never seen that man cry before or since. I knew he wanted me in a forever kind of way then.

we both knew we were soulmates for each other pretty much the second weekend into dating- literally. I think we both agreed that “this is the relationship that is going to work out for the rest of our lives 🙂 ” He slipped saying that he loved me that weekend to his friends that I overheard, and 2 months later he properly said he loved me 🙂
I love your story btw!

This is such a cute thread–it’s making me “awwww” like crazy :).
My SO told me he knew he realized he loved me while he was watching an episode of How I Met Your Mother (romantic? lol). I can’t remember which episode, but he said he got this giant burst of fear at the thought of us ever not being together. We exchanged “I love yous” about a week later. Now, we’re about a year away from getting engaged!

@MissRuthie: Darling Husband and I spent countless hours getting to know one another over the phone before we even met in person (Match.com hookup) I was already smitten with him and knew that, once we met, unless there was some HUGE chemistry issue, I was a goner. He basically said the same thing too, after the fact.
Once we did meet in person, we basically never left each others side! We all but moved in together, dated as long as we could stand it, getting our kids blended, etc., but, yeah about a week after our first face to face encounter he told me he loved me! We began talking about marriage right away. He said, on our wedding day “I’ve loved you my whole life, I just didn’t know YOU yet. And once I met you I knew I loved you…I just didn’t know how much”
*swoon* just last night he was talking again about how we met and how wonderful it’s all been. He said “I thoroughly enjoyed first falling in love with you….and I thoroughly enjoy falling into deeper love with you every day” LOVE.THIS.MAN!!!
