I’m not a July bride, but my bridal shop said 10 weeks out to end about 1 week before the wedding.

I bought my dress out of town, so I got my fittings done way early.

I also bought off the rack, so I had my first fitting the day I bought it (in February).

I had my second fitting mid April, the seamstress had done the initial take-in and then popped in some pins for the hem, we decided on a bustle, and the seamstress put in a few more pins to take in the hips a smidge more.

I can go in for my final fitting anytime after June 18th, and either pick up the dress then if it is ‘perfect’ or schedule another pick-up/final fitting date if there are still tweaks to be made.

I think it just depends on your schedule, how likely you are to have your weight fluctuate drastically, or if you bought your dress locally or not.

As far as ‘standards’ or norms go, I’ll probably be bringing my dress home around the time ‘normalcy’ states I should be doing my second fitting.

Frankly, I just do not have the time in the 2-3 weeks pre-wedding to travel 8+ hours to grab my dress.

@pinkshoes:

that’s okay, we can be un-normal together lol.

My wedding is July 09th. I’ve already had 2 fittings and my last one is june 25th. The fit wont change much if I lose weight between then and the wedding because it’s empire waisted, so I know my ribs won’t be getting any smaller, and I have straps, so I’m not worried about it falling down.

My wedding is July 2 and my first fitting was May 12th. However, basically I was just yelled at for not having my shoes! So now that I have my shoes, I am going back tomorrow (May 26) for my “first” fitting. I already tried on the dress when it first came in. Not too much needs to be done other than hemming, bustle and adding some cups ๐Ÿ™‚

I had my first fitting on May 12 and my second will be June 16. I bought my dress in Houston (where my parents live) so I have to drive about 8 hrs to get there and have been scheduling fittings around trips I already had to make down there anyway. I hope I don’t have to have a 3rd fitting, but I guess I will make another long drive if necessary.

@T28: Yeah, you gotta do what works for you I guess. I bought my dress in Las Vegas but I live in Seattle. I just had it shipped here and am using a private seamstress rather than plan trips to Vegas (although wouldn’t that be nice?)

July IS almost here! Ahhh! ๐Ÿ™‚

I went to the seamstress about 6 months before to talk to her.  I brought my dress but didn’t try it on for her.  I went back about 4 weeks before and then again at 2 weeks then 2 days before to pick it up.

I just had my first fitting yesterday!  It went really well, i only need a hem and a bustle!

My second fitting is June 24th, where i’m assuming i’ll try it on, and if all is well, take her home with me!

I totally cheated. The wedding is at the end of July and my first fitting is in 2 weeks on June 7th and i have another one 2 weeks after. I waited long enough to get my body in shape… I feel more prepared and closer to my weight goal.

My dress gets in on june 15 for my july 20 wedding!! eek! and to top it all off, i’ve never actually tried one on in a size that comes close to fitting me.. (size 14, all they had was a bridal size 2…) but it was their fault because they told me they put a rush on it but hadn’t actually…. so they are going to rush my fittings for free. they said they can finish my fittings in a week if necessary… sigh. here’s hoping i love it as much as i think i will!!!
