When did you start going gray?…

I was 23 (I’m 26 now), and I was super excited because I’m going white (not grey).  And that means one day I’ll have beautiful white hair like my granny did.

I’ve never dyed my hair and don’t have any plans to.  I only have 4 or 5 white hairs, and only one is usually visible due to my long/thick hair.  It’s not something I am willing to spend any money on (dye).  I do buy quality shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, and smoothing serum (which I rarely use).

Thirty-one.  I found my first gray hairs in the months after my husband’s death and the loss of our unborn child.  I was at 35% gray by the end of that year.

My brother is 38 and has a brand new flash of silver at his temples.  I didn’t notice mom getting silver hairs. She’s in her 60s and it just looks like she has blonde hair with highlights. I guess silver hairs tend to look like highlights in some circumstances.  I’m 36 and I don’t have any yet,  but I also have my hair dyed rosegold at the moment so I wouldnt know anyway.

I found my first grey hair as a teenager (pre-teen if you include the random white eyebrow hair I occasionally get). I got a bunch during university and then they became noticeable by other people when things were a problem at work. Both my parents didn’t go grey until they were in their 40s so I honestly think stress has played a big part in mine.

For a long time they were hidden or I just pulled them out (it doesn’t make more appear). I’m now 30 and it was only about a year and a half ago that I started dying my hair to cover it after I had a bar tender call me “Ma’am” and I suddenly realised how noticeable they’d become. They’re right at the front of my face at the parting – once it’s a proper streak it’ll look quite nice.

On the plus side, my hair is a really nice white/silver colour rather than grey.

I found my first white hair (never had  gray hairs) in my early 20s! I only had one or two for years, but just this year (I’m 36 now) I noticed that I have 5 or 6 around my right temple. They aren’t noticable unless I put my hair up. I’ve never dyed my hair and I don’t plan to, either. I have black hair and I hope that I only get white hairs – my mom is 70 and has salt and pepper hair (black, white & gray hairs) that she doesn’t dye. I prefer the look that my Grandma had with white/silver hair, which she’d had in her 60s.
