My mom and I happened into a bridal store and they told me you have to allow 6 months for the dress to come in. I was totally shocked!
So I was just wondering, is this the norm?
when did you start shopping for your dress?

I started shopping around 8-9 months and I got scolded from several places telling me I waited too long! So annoying. But in the end I ended up ordering a dress that’ll be in next month– 5 months before the wedding. So who knows..

Nope. It depends. Some people do a year out. Some do 3 months out. I live in NYC and there are soooo many sample sales where you can buy and take it with you and your seamstress can alter it. Anyhow, I don’t thnk it’s the norm.

I ordered my dress in January and its still not here. I would give yourself plenty of time because you never know how long it will take for your dress to be made. Mine has a lot of detail so maybe its just me but its taking FOREVER!

I’m dress shopping right now!
I too have heard horror stories of dresses not coming in on time or they had problems and had to be sent back, etc, etc
Plus I knew I would picky and would want to visit several stores so that’s why I’m starting early 🙂

I went last weekend, and I have 11 months till teh wedding. I went because my famil live overseas and they were visiting. If they hadn’t been I would have waited even longer. Don’t let the shops shock you, you are right on time. They always claim it will take ages but it usually takes arounds 4 months, maybe a bit longer or shorter depending on the deisgner. In fact one of the flagship stores we went to told us that they would not start production on a dress for a July wedding until Nov/Dec and it would arrive around March.

I started looking online right away, and then when I was armed with a ton of pictures went shopping a year and 4 months prior to our wedding. I found a dress right away, but that was because I knew exactly what I was looking for and was able to convey that to the bridal shop that I went to. Yes, I only went to one shop and I only tried on 5 gowns, but I knew the look I was going for and we had already booked our venue, so I knew the look I was going for would work. I ended up gettting a sample gown for less than my budget and I didn’t have to wait. Right now I am just trying to lose a few more pounds/inches before I get it altered to fit me.

I just bought my dress last week for April 2011 wedding. My estimated delivery is 4 months, but all the shops said it could take up to 6 months depending on the dress/ designer you choose. Good Luck!

Wow thats crazy, I wasnt really serious about shopping around yet and almost felt silly when we went in, but i guess its never too early!

We got our dresses at a consignment store. Not only did that make them less expensive, but a) we got to try on the actual dresses we were buying, and b) we walked out with them the same day.

for my june wedding i’ve already got some favorites after hours of searching online.. but i dont plan to buy until DEC/JAN i really want to wait for bridal fashion week in october and see the newest gowns that will be on the runways. i hate to buy to soon and have buyers remorse.. i think 6 months to the date is gonna be enough time for me. plus if you buy to early you have to pay for storage too

My dress took a full 7 months to come in (from Spain). They thought it would take 6, but it was held up in customs. I also heard that most factories in China do not work in January which can extend time. Better to be safe!

I ordered my dress in early June 2010 for Feb 2011. It wont be in until Dec! Then I only have one week to have all my fittings then take it with me! The dress is at a salon on the East Coast and I live in Califoria. Probably not the best idea =( I advise all to shop EARLY!

It’s just in case it takes a long time to come in. I purchased mine in the beginning of December and it came in around March or April so it took a good 4 or 5 months plus you will need to get it altered which may take a couple weeks so 6 months is actually a pretty good estimate. I rad somewhere it even suggested a year out! I think I had a little freak out at that point.
