I am not married yet but we would like to start having babies as soon as we get married. We been living together for almost two years and the wedding is in Aug 2013.
When is a good time to start taking prenatal vitamins? Are you taking them?

I would start taking them at any time. I even knew some girls who took them in high school for their hair and skin. I personally started taking them a year before I got pregnant. My doctor advised that having them in your system at least a year before can be of a great benefit.

I’d start taking them now – you’ll get into the habit, and they certainly won’t do you any harm!

I strted taking them 2 years before I got married & pregnant. even though we were not TTC & the pregnancy not really planned, I took them just in case.
I think any woman of child bearing age would benefit b/c you just never know…
And like PP said, it’s good to have them in your system in advance of TTC becasue of the folic acid .

A woman’s multi vitamin also has the folic acid you need, so you could also just take one of those until you get closer to TTC. All women of child bearing age should take at least that. Since the prenatals are so much more expensive, that’s what I’ve been doing. Plus, a regular multi vitamin sometimes has more calcium, which I don’t eat enough of, but you would have to check on the specific brands.

My husband and I decided on TTC starting in June.
But I started taking Prenatal Vitamins and Folic acide back in December.
Basically as soon as we had the talk to have a baby, I started taking my vitamins.
I think its never too early to start to be honest, at least start taking the folic acid, as a woman in her reproductuive years, I think its vital we do so.

My doctor said at least 3 months before TTC, but to start at any time prior. I took prenatals for about a year before we started TTC.

Hmmm I hadn’t really thought of this. Are all prenatals basically the same or is there something I should be looking for specific when choosing one?

We are not married yet either and are waiting, but will be ttc asap lol. I started them the beginning of last June.

I have taken them for years. I use the Costco Nature Made prenatals, no stomach issues! =)

i started taking prenatals about 3-4 months before TTC when i went to my doctor and she recommended it. it’s nice to get in the habit and i wasn’t taking a vitamin anyway, so i started taking that.

I began 3 months before we were married since we were planning to TTC immediately.

I just found out I’m pregnant and I started taking them back in February.
