My OB told me to stop bc when we wanted to try and start taking prenatals once I was off bc. So that’s what I did.

My OB recommended that I take a women’s daily with folic acid/folate immediately but that I did not need to switch to a prenatal vitamin until 2 months or so before my TTC plans.

She recommended I stop the pill 1 month/cycle before beginning TTC; she advised that once I had a “natural” period (ie: a period triggered by my hormones rather than withdrawl from placebo pills) I was clear to begin TTC.

ktrv927 :  Prenatals at least 3 months before TTC and ditch BCP around the same time. I chose to get off BCP 5-6 months before TTC to chart my cycles on Fertility Friend to learn what was normal for me and when I typically O, so when it finally became go time I would be prepared and knowledgable. But whenever you do decide to get off BCP start taking prenatals in case there is an oops. 🙂

I went off birth control last July and started taking prenatals at the same time. We started TTC pretty much right away knowing that it probably wouldn’t happen because my cycle needed to regulate. I got my period but my cycle didn’t fully regulate until December and I got pregnant in February. I think it’s always better to start as early as you can, especially if you can get prescription ones covered by insurance.

I started taking prenatals a little while after we got engaged. I knew we’d be TTC within the next 2 years or so and my doctor said there was no disadvantage to starting them early. I gave birth almost 6 months ago and I’m still taking prenatals! No reason to stop.

As for BC, I stopped using the pill about 6 months before we started TTC. I had been on BC for over 15 years at that point and had no idea how my body would react without it. So I wanted to give my cycle time to regulate and also figure out if/when I was ovulating each month.

I started prenatal vitamins about four months before TTC. I would have felt weird taking them any earlier because really they’re the same as regular vitamins except they have pregnancy written on them and they’re three times the price 😂 By the time i got pregnant I’d been on them for about eight months. I also started taking an extra folic acid tablet when I got my positive test up until 12 weeks, so it was a total of 800mg rather than 400mg for those few weeks. I’m six months pregnant now and baby seems happy and healthy!

I started prenatals ~3 months before ttc.  I’m really glad I did, because the folate in them is most critical in the first few weeks of pregnancy, and it takes a while to build up in your system, and I got pregnant the first cycle.  So it would have been too late to start once we were TTC!

Re: birth control, I had a copper IUD.  I got it taken out, and then went back to the doctor 4 weeks later like “Sooooo I’m pregnant!” haha.
