I will be 17 weeks in a couple of days and MIL says it is way too soon to start a registry, but I am so excited and want to begin NOW. This is our first child and I am almost certain that I am getting a couple of showers. However, I doubt that I will get gifts and a shower until December/January…. Would it be in poor taste to start registering now or should I hold off another couple of months?

I have no idea how this got posted in beehive. IT should be posted in pregnancy. I’m very sorry. Could a moderator please move it?

@carolsdaughter: Start your registry anytime you want. If someone looks up your registry in order to be snarky that says more about them than about you! Afterall, why would any sane well-meaning person look up a registry unless they wanted to buy you something!

this is true, but to be clear I really don’t think (or at least I hope) nobody would be snarky about when I start my registry. I just wanted to know at what time other bees started their baby registry. I suppose I could start a registry and just not tell anybody about it until I was asked. lol.

@carolsdaughter: Start the registry now! I think I started mine around 16 weeks. It took forever to get everything finalized. I liked to go to the stores to look at things, then do research online, then talk to people, then go back and look at things, and the cycle continues. It’s nice to be able to make lots of changes now before people start actually looking at your registry.

You can start it then, just be aware that stuff changes all the time with the seasons/availability/choices etc, so what you register for now, might not be an option in 3 weeks and you will have to do research again to find something you like to replace it.

I just started mine this weekend at 21 weeks 🙂

I started an Amazon wishlist moments after a BFP then moved things to an Amazon regsitery at 20 weeks. It was a good way to add recommended things as I went along rather than impulse scans.
Do it now, you can/will change it a million times!

You should do it now if you want and have time 🙂 I need to start but I’ve been busy, I’ve done a tiny bit of research (strollers, car seats ect.) but still have a lot more to do before we will be ready to register.

I started a registry online at Babies R Us a few weeks ago but I didn’t put it under my real name so if someone searches for me by name they won’t be able to find it. Once my registry is closer to being complete I will go back and add edit my name.

I haven’t done this yet, but I plan on registering once I have a firm date for a shower, so hopefully a couple weeks before invites go ouor for that. Like PPs have said, there isn’t much point to doing to too early cuz stuff changes.

@carolsdaughter: I would start now. My son is 4 months old now, and we registered when I was 12 weeks pregnant. i did this because there are soooo many options out there for most things. I needed the time to research things like car seats and breast pumps that I though were important. We didn’t actually go in store and use the scanner to add little things until 20-22ish weeks. But it definitely took me a while to figure out what I wanted to use especialy because this was my first child.

im 16 weeks and ive started an amazon wishlist. its more for me to keep track of everything i need to get for the baby than a registry per se, but if people ask ill certainly tell them its on there!
